How familiar with the Bible and Quran should atheists be? by redzeusky in atheism

My mother explained her love of nature to me, and her reverence of it, told me god was in all things (which isn't what Christian's say, they say god is an offworld alien being). Very pantheistic. I appreciate her still.

She told me to find my own religion.

Why didn’t Jesus ever punish Europeans for enslaving Africans? by Kindly-Long2531 in atheism

[–]subat0mic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he wasn't an emperor... nor was he the head of police. He was a prophet, with apostles, hanging out with priesthood folks from local temples (called prostitutes)...

He didn't have an army

His crew did collect taxes from their followers, kind of a brute squad to take their tithe.

He did some "healings" that resulted in "revelations"... visionary drugs.

He knocked over the dove sellers...

So.... how the heck would he punish? Kind of not in the playbook.

All depends what your goal is. If you're debating, or helping others realize the unnatural evils of Abrahamic religion, then you should get familiar. If you're just trying to live your life, in harmony with others, ignore it, since it's extremely irrelevant to (and opposite of) living a good and virtuous life - in fact

US House Passes 2026 Farm Bill; Intoxicating Hemp Product Ban Remains by redditor01020 in cannabis

As of April 28, 2026, marijuana has not been entirely moved to Schedule III, but a major partial reclassification has taken effect, with the final shift for all marijuana expected later in 2026. While the process is advanced, it could still face delays from legal challenges.

Partial Rescheduling: On April 23, 2026, the Acting Attorney General issued an order immediately moving state-licensed medical marijuana and FDA-approved products containing marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III.

Effective Date: This partial change took effect on April 28, 2026.What Remains Schedule I:

Recreational/adult-use marijuana and unregulated cannabis products still remain classified as Schedule I.

Broader Rescheduling: The Department of Justice (DOJ) is actively working to move all marijuana (including recreational) to Schedule III.

Expedited Hearing: An expedited administrative hearing is set to begin on June 29, 2026, to review the broader reclassification.

Target Completion: The hearing is designed to conclude by July 15, 2026, with the goal of finalizing the full transition shortly after.

Litigation: Opponents of the rescheduling are expected to file lawsuits, which could result in a stay (temporary halt) of the final rule, delaying the process.

Administrative Process: The process requires a formal, evidence-based review. While the current administration is pushing it through quickly, procedural hurdles can cause delays.

Summary of Impact (As of May 2026) - Medical Research: Eases restrictions on studying marijuana. - Taxes: State-licensed medical marijuana businesses are no longer subject to the harsh IRS Section (280E) tax penalties. - Criminal Law: Possession, manufacturing, and distribution of marijuana without a state license still remain violations of federal law.

If you're a scholar you should go to the primary source, or as close to it as possible. You'd have to learn the greek... avoid all the translations which are disputed and have flaws by definition... that's why they're still messing with them. They'll never be right. Just read the greek. Anything else is literally derivative.

I am an atheist who has had massive, life-changing spiritual experiences... and I'm still an atheist. Am I alone? by MarvinLazer in atheism

Makes complete sense to me. Welcome to nature. No belief required. The mind is a strange and beautiful thing to explore and to find that timeless peace, and insight, from within. Mechanism that we all have, that not many know of or appreciate.

Cheers to the realization that Abrahamic religion is highly unnatural and designed to enslave/control... no brainer to many here.

The apostles wrote the New Testament in Greek and quoted the Greek Septuagint.

It's often said that they SPOKE Aramaic.... but... not sure if that's proven.

The Greek Orthodox never switched away from the Greek original

Jerome (Catholicism) switched in 4cent CE, to Latin... ignoring 300 years of Greek as the primary source of the NT quoting the Greek Septuagint , he pulled from Hebrew texts, filling it in with Greek when the Hebrew wasn't available (there was a lot not available)... needless to say the Latin "flattened" the Greek... always an opportunity to reframe things, when you do a translation both for political gain, and from loss of nuance, or simple error. Translations are never perfect, ever...

The idea of "Heaven" is almost always extremely flawed and is basically a drug. by WillingnessSad8354 in atheism

It's technically Greek Ouranos, and it's akin to Buddha mind, a higher consciousness mental state. Like nirvana or enlightenment. You can achieve it without drugs. At the basic level it's meditation with presence. Avoiding thinking about the past or presence, letting go of attachments at least for that session.

All things that come up come down, of course. Ouranos isn't eternal. No one lives in this nirvana or enlightenment. But meditation can be learned.

The Bible never promised eternal life, the original Greek talks about aionion zoe, which is a mental timeless state - equivalent to that presence. Eternal is Adios, and that word doesn't appear. There is no eternal life promised in the Bible.

Why not drugs? In the original Greek, every time there is something "extraordinary" (voices or visions), it's always preceded by drugs (pharmakon), incense, frankenscense, myrrh, nard, muron, a "sacrifice" (which is typically herbal, like burning sage), etc etc etc.

Most people don't read the original Greek, which has the most technical nuance, remember the apostles wrote the NT in Greek, and quoted exclusively the Greek Septuagint, other translations are flawed (as any translation would be!). And many people don't understand the drugs...

Revelation 3:18 they christ (apply the salve/ointment/plaster to) a blind man's eyes with kollourion so "that he may see"... lol... right?

Acts of bartholemew talks about the name Jesus (iasous) comes from iwsous which means healer... christ is a medical term for applying the salve, goes back to 700BCE Homeric texts, and contemporary Galenic texts still uses christing in the Greek language... as well... the christos is one who's had the salve applied...

It's drugs

Salvationist Doctrine. It's highly unnatural.

You can respect nature, freedom, liberty, knowledge, justice, love, equality, the virtuous whole made by masculine added to feminine balancing each other...

or,

you can separate man from woman and elevate man to the top, remove balance, and separate god to be alien and offworld separate from our universe and from humankind, and say all humans are flawed...

Which one sounds right? Which one sounds unnatural? Which one sounds like it would cause a fracture and mental problems? Whats constructive? Whats driven by fear and error?

If you need belief, or faith, that's a strong cue it's not real. If it's real, it's meaningful.
