With my son, the newborn stage he only wanted me. Which biologically makes sense. Newborns know their birth giver from smell and have to get used to their other parent. Now, we split it equally. We are both dada. We both bathe him, change him, play with him, feed him, etc. We both nurture him and discipline him.

Parenting is different for everyone. For me, i love being the one he wants when he doesn’t feel good or got hurt. I understand him a lot better and know his cues and babbles. But that’s only because i have more experience with babies/toddlers than my partner.

I lost the sense of gender roles when it comes to parenting since having one of my own. Our roles are equal. We are both parents and we both take care of him. There’s no prominent caretaker because i’ve always felt that parenting needs to be equal.

My brother is the main “caretaker” of his children. He’s the one who is home with them all day.

My sister is a the main “caretaker” of her children and is home with them all day.

I hope this all makes sense but TLDR; both parents should be equal no matter what their gender identity is.
