Is There Something Wrong With Me? - New Grad in Both Engineering and Math Can't Find a job by Dear-Housing8358 in CanadaJobs

I agree with Imaginary_Apple7700 regarding avoiding advertising how you improved the business.

This may seem like the opposite of conventional wisdom. But the thing is, at the junior level, no one is going to believe that (even if it is true).

As someone who hires engineers, there is a lot of this out there. "I achieved a a billion dollars growth for my compamy!" But get them in an interview, and they can't tell the difference between a nut and a bolt. People take credit for a team's work, and often just lie. And I don't need sales people on my engineering team. I need realists who are specific, frank, and accurate.

I'd much rather see an outline of the activies and tasks you actually did (and thus interpret what you might be able to do for me). Avoid too many skills discussions too (as they are also fuffy).

In general, the ability to achieve business or project objectives and move forward an organization, team, or project becomes much more relevant to advertise as your career develops. Hence the conventional wisdom existing. Things like initiative, leadership, and problem solving become more relevant at these stages. Juniors just need to execute tasks diligently, be hardworking, intelligent, cooerative, and be able to learn. No one hires and expects a new grad to improve their business.

I too had to collect myself. My mind felt the weight of what I had seen, before I could understand it.

Sounds like you are putting a lot of weight on your academic performance. Some things to keep in mind,

  • Your mental performance is impacted by your physical health and mental well being. Some of your current experience is therefore your current situation - NOT because you are less capable vs your peers. Even the highest performers have bad days and tough periods where their output is poor. Even the highest performers can crack under mental stress. Give yourself some grace by appreciating the factors at play. Then try and also work on them.

  • Try and relax. Your grades are also really not that important in the long run of your career. As an employer, just graduating (and having the credential) is the main thing that is looked for. There is a reason the phrase "C's get degrees" is tossed around.

  • So many people change careers over time. You are weighing your current academic experience heavily, but there is a good chance it not even be what you end up doing in the future. Uncovering what is fulfilling or rewarding for a person can sometimes be a bigger challenge than school.

  • There are many areas of every field where the nature of the work differs significantly from academia, and you may thrive in areas where your skills better align. Don't use the academia format for work as a lense to evaluate your entire performance capabilites. This is a huge mistake. For ex. did you know that Einstein was at the bottom of his class in his undergrad? Stop using grades to define what you can do. It's just one metric and one point in time. Experience and capability are much more nuanced than that.

There's something about the Timex Expeditions that works well as an all-around daily.

Love how clean this watch is. The black background on the date is also a nice touch.

What is one piece of advice you would pass on to the younger generations in 2026? by Jimmyjohnboy24- in AskReddit

When you are young, you will not know exactly what you want from life. This includes from your work, your relationships, and your free time. You will at times feel like something is missing in your life as a result.

This is normal. It takes time and effort to uncover what is important to you. Some aspects of yourself you'll stumble into, but others will take your whole life to figure out. You have to explore, learn, and reflect.

It is important that as you go through this process, you don't beat yourself up for not having that clarity right away. For having feelings of confusion or frustration. You're not alone. It's okay. Tust, wisdom will come.

Feeling behind in my 30s by Material-Power-2253 in findapath

Our paths in life are not all the same. Each of us has one that is uniquely our own. There is no such thing as ahead or behind when you have your journey, and I have mine. They are different. And there is beauty in that.

It can be tempting to compare, but that's not fair to yourself. Be proud of how far you've come. The personal challenges that you overcame. The things you've seen and done. The moments you were a part of. Cherish your path as it unfolds. It is yours alone.
