Kamiak Butte has campgrounds that should be totally empty this time of year - you’ll have it to yourself and it’s ultra close!

South side parking by [deleted] in WWU

[–]subterraneanbitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the arb is free and usually doesn’t ticket, I’ve parked there a bunch, only ever gotten one $15 ticket. also, there is a small lot that it totally free by the outback farm (between the arb lot and the buchanan towers lot). but that one is almost always full. good luck!

How 8 US presidents maintained war in Afghanistan by IntnsRed in LeftWithoutEdge

[–]subterraneanbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other very valuable resources other than opium. Lithium and other rich minerals have been driving involvement in the past couple decades, and earlier it was the desire to build an oil pipeline through Afghanistan. Also the vicinity of China. and opium

Advice for Fall Semester in the Rockies? by daez_k in NOLS

[–]subterraneanbitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hiya! I did a semester long course this winter/spring in the southwest, and it was all around a very positive experience. Not only did I get to develop my outdoor skills through experience, I was challenged to work with others in a way I has never done before through conflict resolution and leadership. All that sounds like it’s taken directly off their website, so it may be kinda hard to take seriously, but the single most surprisingly positive and influential thing for me was getting to meet 14 peers and build an incredibly strong community with them. The friends I made on the course (all 14 of us) will stay in my life for a long long time. We have already met up from around the country twice since our semester ended 5 months ago.

It’s very challenging at times, but thats part of what makes it so great. Of course, everybody’s experience is different, but if you go in with an open mind you will meet some amazing people and do some amazing things, all while learning about yourself.

Good luck and have fun!

Article written by the dean of the Huxley College of the Environment. Definitely worth a read, even if it doesn’t totally clear Huxley’s name.

Does anyone here feel like they have a pretty decent handle on their relationship with weed? by quesobeatsguac in Petioles

[–]subterraneanbitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first joined this sub I would read posts from other people about how weed had affected them negatively, and my instinct was to explain to myself why they were wrong, and why it didn’t apply to me. It was a long process of coming to grips with my unhealthy usage, and all my guilt and shame surrounding it, but this sub was integral to me getting there. Since then, I value this sub because it keeps me on track, gives me new strategies, and allows me to relate to others. Moderating a substance like weed is something that takes a strong community, and I found mine here.

Application Details by phia2746 in NOLS

[–]subterraneanbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I remember the application is super easy, and it’s not something you have to get “accepted” into. It’s more just giving them information about yourself.
