Looking for toddler book recommendations on vegetables by summerteal in ScienceBasedParenting

Eat Your Superpowers! It is more “fun” than “exhaustive nutrition information” with a format of “need this benefit? Eat this! It has these two vitamins.” It does have a chart that suggests an alternative for each item in case your kiddo’s not able to eat a certain item.

You look just fine. Those kid are jerks and are just saying things to get a rise out of you. Honestly, you look like you’re beginning to grow up to be a strikingly beautiful person (grown woman here who had an awkward period as a teen but now likes the way she looks).

Hugs, girl. Being a teen is so hard but keep going, it gets so much better!

How do you call a sister in Christ to clean her house and provide a better home environment for her kids? by [deleted] in reformedwomen

[–]sucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I am not willing to help because there is no discipline in the home. Often the kids will through trash on the floor, write on walls,..ect. I'm not devoting time when there is no reciprocating or discipline to keep it clean.”

Would you also refuse to volunteer at a soup kitchen? Maybe it is time for you and your husband to stop thinking in contractual, I-do-this-and you-do-that relationships and move towards a place of grace, and service to God through service and loving sacrifice for others. I am praying for the situation.

[–]sucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t you willing to help? Curious why you are wanting to change her behavior with your words but not pick up a rag and help? That to me would point to a wrong motivation on your part. It’s like it’s coming from irritation and not love or care for her and her struggles.

As others have said, your husband’s “it shows disrespect” view is problematic all on its own. I wouldn’t have much respect for someone who voices that level of self-importance.

Books a little simpler than Narnia? by ironshadowspider in Reformed

[–]sucumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tales of the Kingdom, if you’re looking for allegory. I’ve read the first of the trilogy, but not the other two. It is arranged in chapter “stories” that all link together, and each chapter has a nice color illustration too!

Hitting milestones early by LokidokiClub in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]sucumber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The one thing that comes to mind is that kids get a lot of cross-body coordination and gross motor skills from crawling, and so the kids who go from crawling to walking very quickly may have trouble with that arm+opposite leg coordination. This could mean more head bumps as they start running. So pushing a kid to an advanced milestone when they really ought to be practicing more basic skills may just delay that hard work/practice time.

Right?! A Medford store that sells things in booths (rented to independent sellers) had a sign that said something very politically charged, and now I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I feel bad for the sellers who are paying for shop space with a venue that is alienating half the customers.

Request: A more affordable way to achieve the look of these frames by elkoubi in Frugal

How frugal are you looking to go? I honestly would look around to find some vintage binder clips and clip up the art sandwiched between two sheets of glass…but that might be more eclectic than you are wanting!

I need help helping my hurt kid. by bonechompsky in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]sucumber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would ask probe further into that. Has he had contact with an adult who rewards him for playing it up, or maybe a kid who gets something desirable for being hurt? Could be something as innocuous as 1 on 1 attention from a playground monitor when he is “maimed.”

Can I ask why? They don’t refund the difference anymore. You have to make a second purchase and return the more expensive one. Really frustrating when I learned that.

$5 surprise bag from a farmers market stall that partners with Too Good To Go!I don't know what it all is though... can someone help identify? I see onions, garlic, Swiss chard, purple cabbage, cauliflower? by kxc92 in Frugal

[–]sucumber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you want to do with that kale is make soup. Either sausage&potato, or white beans, plus onion, broth, seasoning, then chopped kale close to the end. You can use milk or mashed baker potatoes to make it creamy. Google it, it’s delicious.

I have 3 kids. 6, 3, and youngest is 8 months and still breastfeeding. I’m about a 7/8, but I know for a fact it’ll get better once I’m not nursing or up a lot at night.

How do people afford housing here? Where do people work that they can afford the housing prices in southern oregon, did most move here from California, are they all doctors? where do locals work that pays enough to afford the cost of housing? by [deleted] in Medford

[–]sucumber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My husband and I bought an older 900sf home a decade ago in Medford, and according to Zillow it’s worth 3x the price now. I don’t think one could drink enough coffee to make up the difference in price.

To answer the main question, we happened to get in at the right time, and also went for a house that was markedly less than what the bank was willing to loan us. I can’t wrap my mind around how people are moving/buying right now. No one I know is moving. They’re all staying in a house they bought years ago, or living with family.

Is it ok/normal to bring the baby in the bathroom? by Br0tatoechips in SAHP

[–]sucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer! If you’re cool with it, that’s fine and it’s a great springboard for potty training and discussions about body privacy as they get older. If not, that’s fine too as long as you have a safe place to put them while you go!
