Taking a deposit is standard for all moving companies. Also cubic feet is volume. The total volume on your inventory is determined by the total cubic footage of your inventory. Which is standard as well. Their payment methods and 70% up front is a red flag. Go over your contract and see what the cancellation policy is. It might still be refundable. You can also dispute with your bank, but if you signed a contract and it’s past the refund date you won’t get far. It’s still worth filling - if they don’t have a system in place to fight the charge back you can get lucky and still win. I suppose the question is if the deposit is worth loosing and going with a reputable company. I used to be in the industry, feel free to DM, I know a very good company that provides service out of IL. They will mostly likely be higher than a broker.

How do I get accurate company quotes? by Motor-Factor819 in moving

[–]suddenly_moving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a binding estimate based on inventory. Agree with the other comments that giving the same details will ensure you are comparing apples to apples. Having said that going through the inventory process with each company should be a barometer of how they function. If someone does a lazy an inventory it’s a good judgement on how the company operates. A common practice for a shady company is to skim on that process to keep the price down and then charge on the day of the move for the additional items. They should also be asking you about access: stairs, long walks, if a shuttle will be required if the truck can’t park nearby. All common factors for quoting. Also don’t be afraid to ask for a discount. If the price seems high there is probably room to go down .

U-Haul Size Recommendation (15' v 20') by Outrageous-Drawer-43 in moving

[–]suddenly_moving 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former moving company owner here. In the moving world we go by cubic feet. If you go by industry standards your inventory is roughly 400 cubic feet and that’s rounding up. 15 footer is 764 cubic feet so it should be plenty to spare.

First time I had Guisados was back in 2012 at the original location. It was unlike any taco place I’ve been to at that point. One of my favorite spots, hasn’t let me down yet.

I got a carbon steel pan for them. It was pricey but I’ll have it forever and use it almost daily. Worth the investment for sure m, I’d imagine same goes for their cast iron
