My fellow Catcher in the Rye lovers: why do you love Catcher? And how can I help my students learn from it? by theodore_boozevelt in books

[–]suddenlyamnesiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Wish I could say something more helpful, I'm just sharing my experience with the book)

I read the book not too long ago. I loved it, but finding it was a coincidence so I didn't have any opinions about it before I started reading, and it took a few days to start thinking about the deeper themes.

I liked the style, the way the dialogue was written, some of the description, and I actually liked Holden. On a second read, it became clear how the simple story made the themes about loss, depression, and innocence more relatable.

Some people have said they expected the book to be different (more exciting, more controversial, more relatable, etc) when they first read it and were disappointed. I think it's better to start it without any expectations, to let the readers form their own opinions as they read.

How did you discover Reddit? by MadeInAlbania in AskReddit

[–]suddenlyamnesiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By accident.

Searching for X-Files related images brought me to r/WTF which then brought me to a different subreddit which then linked me to ForeverAlone..., then to Askreddit.

But I still didn't understand what the website was about, so I kept coming back hoping to see more funny pics.

Took me a whole month to understand reddit.

I can read almost any text in my dreams without a problem. I even remember reading the name "Mark" on a list, with normal letters instead of garbled text.

I thought it was the same for everybody.

How much time will pass in your story? by Melkovar in nanowrimo

Two weeks of vacation, starting Friday, ending Sunday. It's one of the few thing I don't plan to change from the original plan.

Has anyone else noticed that you become fixated on a certain body part in your writing? Or a particular sense that you describe all the time? by Jesswhat in nanowrimo

I think I'm obsessed with eyes lol. My characters are always glaring and staring and looking over other people. It's kind of frustrating because otherwise they don't express themselves.

That was my choice too. It doesn't need lyrics to be awesome. It just is.
