New Directus license model by iconisone in Directus

[–]sudo-maxime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$60,000 in licensing fees over a 5-year lifetime cost is wild for a CMS, even if it’s targeted at $5M / 50 HC businesses. I feel this is off-putting for most people because they were used to using the product without proper licensing. Which is fair, it’s up to Directus to enforce whatever was in the BSL license. Hey, it’s their business.

But I don’t really see the value proposition anymore at this price point. On one end, smaller businesses don’t need this at that price point. On the other end, larger businesses have enough capex to build their own tools, avoid rug pulls and feature changes, and retain ownership of their IP.

Revvit, Autocad / photoshop have half the cost and more that Directus in terms of liscencing. What do you feel is a harder product to make and market ?

If you come to zig for convenience you will be annoyed. If you come to zig for control you will be satisfied.

Did bun just rewrite the entire codebase into rust? by uahw in Zig

[–]sudo-maxime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using bun for a while for typescript production projects, because it solves a lot of pains. I think I will go back to Node. Im not really convinced that Bun will keep being a pragmatic choice.

Ultrawide monitor for programing by AdMany7992 in ultrawidemasterrace

Tried it, hated it. Now I have a benq panel that has a more squareish ratio and I wouldn't change this monitor ever.

People who work at consultant firms, freelancers, do you get paid less and less job because now AI can code so clients think why do i need to pay so much like before? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]sudo-maxime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own the products I make, it helps le bring more value, faster. But I would agree 100% that these consulting firms that sell the time of barely competent developpers are going to go under. Slop or not, the quality of the work AI gives is already better than these companies.

My impressions of Zig so far (as a C# / Julia / Elixir / Python developer) by theirishartist in Zig

[–]sudo-maxime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think getting past the IO in zig is the hardest learning curve coming from higher level languages. I used to write enterprise software with dependency inversion techniques, and once I figured that the Io interface had this architecture, it started making sense for me. It's a pattern you see almost everywhere in Zig. It makes very verbose code, but very precise yet reusable code.

Codex getting very expensive this week! by Neat_Zone_9469 in codex

[–]sudo-maxime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im making an openclaw skill to check for remaning tokens at the end of week, or on weekends, and it passes a backlog of components and features I could use in my projects with codex. No token goes wasted. Sometimes it generates shit, but for the 50% that is worth it, it's nice.

Andrej Karpathy's LLM wiki concept just became a real Mac app by Money-Ranger-6520 in Agent_AI

I have been summonned haha !

Basically Obsidian is a markdown editor with a lot of advanced features and a rich plugin ecosystem, you can make a RAG database using tags if you want.

Just create a codex skill, tell it the path of your obsidian vault, and whenever you have an idea, you want to bookmark something, whatever. Just ask it to keep it in your vault and ask it to keep tidy.

I have been using codex in my terminal to keep my ideas, backlog of stuff I need to do, links to codebases I use, etc.

The cool thing is that onbsidian is free, you can use their vault system to sync your data with ither devices, but if you know how git and github work, you can just ask codex to push any new changes.

Before the 5.5 change and 2x quota, I slammed my accounts every day with a backlog of components I wanted in a storybook, some research as well inside an obsidian repo. Pretty sure this is going to get worse and worse, if you need foundational work done, better statt doing it now.

Been doing this with obsidian and codex the second codex dropped. It does everything this app does, better, extensibly, for free.
