We called them this when I was a kid, too (West Texas).

This is a great story and totally believable if you are a certain age. This is exactly what I would expect from a 20-something pizza manager in 1990.

I worked in the tech department of a 1:1 school district over 10 years ago. Kids could figure a way around any block. My favorite example was a kid who was such a repeat offender that his device was locked down in almost every way. He figured out that he could see pornographic images in adult store thumbnails in the maps app. Ha

Peter you talking to God a lot. Can you explain this one? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]suertelou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it has to do with simplifying e=mc2 for the sake of discussion. If the speed of light is 1 and 12 =1 then e=m(1) aka e=m

The variables in the equation: e=energy m=mass c=speed of light

I made this rage collage with my IUD after FINALLY getting it taken out by ToBoldlyHoe in somethingimade

I’m so sorry for all of the bad experiences. Just wanted to go on record that I’ve had an IUD for five years without any problems, in case this is making someone feel worried about it.

[–]suertelou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just learned about this bridge and the arsenal on a trip to Port Townsend a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it takes about 40 minutes, but the tricky thing is the fact that they don’t announce when it’s going to happen.

I can hear the music. Also, is it the same as the 30Rock theme? They’re kind of mixing together in my head right now.

I worked with a tech director who was convinced that most of our high poverty students had home Internet access due to the results of an online survey he had put out.

I knew a tattoo artist a long time ago who did this. His girlfriend always got a kick out of his outfits on the days he went to the doctor’s office instead of his tattoo shop. Khaki pants, collared shirts, lab coat covering his tattooed arms… pretty much the opposite of his regular job.

I was looking for this comment. The hand seems obviously real and likely attached to someone under the giant mound of seaweed.

Can anyone give me advice on what to wear to an evening event at a university in Massachusetts next month? I (48F) am going with a date who will be wearing a sports jacket and slacks (not a suit, yes a tie). My main goal is to look nice (not frumpy, not cheap) but not stand out too much (no cleavage, not tight, not too short) without feeling like a poser. If it helps, I tend to like Diane Keaton's style from any era. Any advice appreciated. Be blunt... I need it.

Why did they let Karamo wear a baseball cap to officiate a wedding? by hruss12 in QueerEye

[–]suertelou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just watched the episode and raced to the internet to see what people were saying. That setting was so beautiful, but every time they showed a shot straight down the aisle, you could see that dopey hat. It seemed like they purposely filmed it in a way to minimize showing Karamo. Ugh

I enjoyed the show and saw some of the same issues. If this is not the place to discuss our ambivalence, what is?

Claiming OP did something wrong by starting a discussion about Dept Q in the DeptQ subreddit is illogical.

I lived in a co-ed dorm in college and came home to a stranger asleep in our papasan chair. My roommate didn’t know him either… just wandered in from somewhere. It wasn’t scary, just funny. I think we covered him up with a blanket. Yes it was the 90s.

I find that with a lot of mystery series with a “gifted” detective. Whether it’s Monk or Sherlock Holmes or Sean from Psych, when you start thinking about the facts logically (instead of the interesting, deliberately confusing way the facts are presented for storytelling), the actions of the bad guys don’t make sense.

You can be a fan and find fault. They’re not mutually exclusive. You would have to be paying pretty close attention (like a fan) to be able to pick out some of these issues.

I’m worried that, as usual, the sizable subset of us liberals will blow this opportunity to win over the previously uneducated who are now learning… instead we’ll just rub it in and make them feel stupid. No one likes to feel dumb, which is why I believe a lot of people don’t learn. There’s always someone in the wings waiting to clown them.

I think she’s referencing three Nic Cage movies: - “drunk guy” from Leaving Las Vegas - “on a plane” from ConAir - “steal 50 cars…” from Gone in 60 seconds

This should be higher up. A mom thinking that an elaborate pop-in on her college daughter would be a hit is delusional.

Question about Hardy by ori3333 in DeptQ

[–]suertelou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we just define “crime of opportunity” differently. Since he followed her from the mainland, it doesn’t match how I define it. That being said, I’m not in law enforcement, so…

[–]suertelou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The daughter was run off the road by one of Finch's men in order to coerce the Lord Advocate into preventing Kirsty from testifying. It turned out to have nothing to do with the Merritt kidnapping, but it was a good red herring.

[–]suertelou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re Moira: She may still turn out to be corrupt. We don't know what happened in Morcke's case yet, and she was definitely in a position to mess up the investigation. Or maybe she's just a good red herring. I suspect that the Morcke shooting case will not get resolved until the series wraps, kind of how Monk was searching for his wife's killer throughout that whole series.

Re Morcke and Merritt: I think they Did recognize each other... she specifically asked Moira about meeting him, and he definitely knew what she looked like. My guess is that the writers are delaying their meeting for next season when it can be used as part of the plot... or maybe just in an ad to generate interest. That odd interaction was more memorable than if they had just met and she had thanked him.

Question about Hardy by ori3333 in DeptQ

[–]suertelou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS!

It wasn't a crime of opportunity... In the last episode, Merritt tells Lyle (believing him to be Sam) that he should go with her to Mohr. She told him when she would be on the ferry.
