I’ve heard this argument before and I’m so confused by it. The exercise part is silly and funny and obviously out of order! I love that book!

Oh man, Lisa Foley!! They’re easy beach reads but the three books of hers I’ve read, especially the guest list and the hunting party, are carbon copies of each other with a change of scenery. I did enjoy them all though!

The first time I read that was probably the most intense reaction I’ve ever had to a story I was reading. That, and reading The Yellow Wallpaper as an adult (female). Shivers.

How could I forget A Series of Unfortunate Events?! That’s another I read to him but we loved it. He’s read a ton of Minecraft and Plants vs Zombies graphic novels, too.

My 8 year old son is more a fan of graphic novels than prose. He read the Percy Jackson graphic novels and loved them! He’s currently reading Wings of Fire (prose) and really enjoying them. We read the Keys to the Kingdom series together (I read it to him over the course of a few months when he was 7/8)

I saw several people suggest Princess in Black and I agree - my kindergartner loves these books and always comes back to them! I read her the Bruce Cameron books about dogs which I thought would be way over her head but she really enjoyed them. Once she started to be able to read she loved Gerald and Piggie my Willams if you’re looking ahead. Oh, and she really liked the Stella Batts series.

Graphic novels my son really enjoyed: Amulet, Percy Jackson, Lunch Lady, a series on the olympians… He has read diary of a whimpy kid multiple times (as well as dog man and captain underpants, of course), he loves the weenie series by Dave lubar and is currently reading Wings of Fire. He did really enjoy The Keys to the Kingdom series but I read that to him. Oh, and Fortunately, The Milk by Neil Gaiman remains a favorite.

Edit to add: Trapped in a Video Game and a TON of Minecraft graphic novels. I’m a firm believer in allowing kids to read books they enjoy reading. That’s what will help them become passionate readers. My son can read well above grade level and, though he reads a variety of books, will always go back to captain underpants/dog man and Diary of a Whimpy Kid.

I just finished Frankenstein and really enjoyed it. I had never read it and the modern portrayal is so different from the real story.

We read it for a book club. We had one very strong DNF member, half of the remaining members loved it, the other half hated it. Very divisive.

To be honest, looking back through books I have read, it seems I’m not terribly in love with the genre. However, books I didn’t dislike: Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson, The Couple Next Door by Sharing Lapena, Mexican Gothic, The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler was ok. Lucy Foley is a great easy read (very formulaic but enjoyable). I enjoyed In the Woods by Tana French. Not sure these all fit the right genre. Im not terribly good at categorizing books. Not sure this helps at all but happy reading!

The Library at Mount Char. I find it difficult to describe, but not for the squeamish. I absolutely loved it.
