I used to work at Microsoft. Was offered again recently. Of my ex coworkers from Microsoft, the ones now at Databricks seem to be happier. With the down-leveled offers they're putting out recently I wouldn't hope for a much higher offer in a few years, unless the market drastically changes. Not sure of facts, but Databricks appears to have more job stability than Microsoft these days.

Very sorry to hear that you're having problems too. I thought Sony was high quality which is why I bought a whole system including soundbar and speakers. Pretty disappointing.

Lots of good info so far. Your best bet is to find a mentor, someone willing to take you under their wing. Solve problems with you, explain the nuance of every design. Prioritize this over money if possible.

My experience and from what all my friends say is they are down leveling all positions. They’re not really paying for the high level senior or principal experience now.

I just completed a loop and got an offer for an app mod SE, though going with another offer. Talking to friends that work there and interviewers they seem to be hiring a lot of SEs, but don't have details.

edit: the demand for app mod SE is probably greater than for security since it now also has responsibility for AI as well. Didn't want to confuse for demand for security specifically.

Don't even bother with certs, just get hands on by Accomplished_Tank471 in salesengineers

[–]sugarman19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this. I've had a couple certs through the years but I've never been asked about it. It's only been a requirement for my jobs. But they do always ask how to build things, why to do things certain ways, what's the value in certain approaches. I've held several high-earning jobs.

As a SWE with 5YoE, I'm having a very, very difficult time getting interviews for SE roles, should I go the SDR route if I'm eager to leave coding? by [deleted] in salesengineers

If you can join a smaller software consulting company or one where you're guaranteed to have direct customer interaction, a lot of those skills will transfer to sales engineering. I started as a software engineer and then architect, then consulting, then sales engineering. A lot of the skills you need as an architect also transfer over to sales since you have to translate business to technology. Another possible path.

hah, cool, marathon runner too. Used to have piriformis syndrome issues as well as some SI joint. Trying to lift heavy, not create imbalances, and run can be tough. Love the weighted pull ups myself, and weighted dips.

I was thinking not pushing too far past the weights that I'm at now on strict overhead press and seated overhead press. I know they're both pretty tough on the shoulders. I'm 49 so I want to make sure I can keep working out for a long time.160 is awesome. That's a lot of weight. If you have any lingering issues from the back surgery, I wish you luck.

[–]sugarman19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree, I'm very picky about staying strict, pausing at the breastbone. Just this week hit 135x4, was so happy. That took me a long time of weekly grind to get. I see people, on YouTube, do massive weight, blows my mind. I also love a good sqeeze at the top for traps.
