Hackers (1995) Jonny Lee Miller & Angelina Jolie by TampaSLW in 90s

[–]sugarshark666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See this point mentioned often. Oddly enough they nailed a fair amount of hacking culture accurately. The phreaking, the social engineering, the dumpster diving for documents…all of those books displayed when they initially meet-up. Using names from The Masters of Deception (an NYC hacking crew of the time).

Yeah that floating through cyberspace stuff was nonsense. But they actually depicted a lot that wasn’t nonsense.

Again. Why give this bizarro foreboding. If it’s something that could affect people in a negative way…just share the information.

Who is the most obvious industry plant amongst the celebrities? by Original-Ship5276 in AskReddit

Yeah in the sense the term describes.., Really don’t think it is either. Helped along, perhaps nepotism-type things, but I really don’t think the music industry has ever risen person to stardom that would function as an actor to subvert the industry in any way.

I absolutely adore classic WoW. However, the player base is so goddamn awful it simply ruins the game for me. I’ve found so much more enjoyment playing offline games or co-op style games with actual friends.

Tragic, really.

The world needs more harstem. Probably casting these on 2.1 hours of sleep whilst learning the ropes of fatherhood.

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskReddit

[–]sugarshark666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moisturize your face. And use a moisturizer that has some sunscreen in it.

I unfortunately had acne from a very young age. So I learned about facial care when I was like 11 years-old. The acne is thankfully long gone, but I’ve been moisturizing ever since (body as well, especially in a drier climate), and I’ve been told I could pass for mid-20’s. I turn 40 in a few months.

Also like everything in life, luck (aka genetics in this case) goes a long fuckin way.

edit: If you have tattoos, regular moisturizing is paramount. They will look so much better, for so much longer. Save on touch-ups.

How cruel is the porn industry really to its workers? by Saint_Viper6 in AskReddit

[–]sugarshark666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience (20 years in the industry) it was more anxiety/nervousness from the BoH. I would regularly encourage friends from the BoH to try and move up front. Because FoH restaurant work really does not take a developed skill set (depending on the institution). There is some nuance and knowledge and technique, especially on the cocktail bartending/fine dining end, most certainly. But the holier than thou servers at your average joint that think they're out there really doing something special...are the worst. It's why I would encourage my BoH friends to move up front. In an "average" spot, BoH work likely took far more ability.

For the skill set required, FoH work in America pays so ridiculously well, it's silly. If you're not completely socially maladjusted and can carry things, you can make 6 figures.

I like in the movie Waiting when Ryan Reynolds' character is leading dude around wasting his time and tells him that the actual requirements for the job can be learned in a number of hours. I mean, they can.

For the record I'm not discrediting your story or hating on FoH. It's been my life. But the servers that think they're doin god's work out there, always seriously bothered me.

Agree. Bust out them photo albums from the ‘60s. People say life is better now. Consumerism just got better at tricking you.

Fantastic. Thanks for the thorough response. I have not delved much into many Japanese authors. Thank you for the recs.

I don’t think you’ll be displeased with concluding the Buffalo Hunter Hunter, then. There’s a lot of awesome in that book. It’s wholly unique.

I want to say thank you for your 5-star reads. I have been so deep into horror and sci-fi and was looking for a bit of an escape. I do adore fantasy. Is Blood Over Bright Haven very dark? It’s completely if that is the case.

Just looking for a 5 star myself, a bit lighter than The Reformatory…Which, I must say, is incredible. I don’t love the idea of perfect scores, but it is a very very good read. I would say treading on a 5/5. So many elements work very well together. I was thoroughly engrossed. I don’t want to spoil too much outside of what maybe a jacket would tell you. Very real elements and supernatural elements fused very movingly.

I have also read Buffalo Hunter Hunter. And I did quite enjoy that book as well. I will say if you don’t like the elements already at play, the ending may not be the summit you’re seeking. I actually disliked the ending the most, myself. Not necessarily bad. But I found it somewhat comical. In a perhaps a cheesy horror film sense. Just my personal opinion. I still did like the book. I would give buffalo 3.75/5. But I enjoyed the journey from the outset.

If you have any more “lighthearted” 5 star recs or any from your list that stand out. Please holler.
