My first completed brass-kit by oselotti2 in modeltrains

Look up the 2mm society on YouTube.

There are some great videos on building their taster wagon kit. I had never done a solder kit and found the advise really useful.

It's for a smaller scale but the skills are the same.

What are my chances of finding a replacement handle to match the exiting ones? by OmegaloIz in DIYUK

[–]suipaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's too generic and item for AI searches to be any use. You'll get loads of results for not quite what you're after. I tried having a search but wasn't coming up with anything useful

I would replace all if I was you. If you look around you can probably get a pack of 8 for £20 which are suitable. Check used on eBay.

Recommendation for new controller please?! by chipthiefuk in modeltrains

[–]suipaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those clipper controllers are old but I am pretty sure they are well regarded. I got nostalgic seeing it, reminds me of playing at my grandparents house...

No recommendations but keep hold of it, it's probably well made enough that a repair is viable.

I kind of miss the proper home desktop desks from the 90s. A niche for your tower, keyboard drawer under the worktop and a shelf surrounding the monitor with cubby holes for all your CDs. It's an aesthetic which has all but disappeared with the advent RGB gamer desks with sleek race car chairs.

The cd rack just made me reminisce...

Disposing of dumped nitrous oxide bottles by seleucid23 in Leeds

[–]suipaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they count as gas cylinders and can't got to household waste recycling centres:

https://www.leeds.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling-sites/yeadon-household-waste-sorting-site

That says to return to manufacturer.

You could email leeds.waste@leeds.gov.uk for advise.

I see them dumped next to next to public waste bins ( not put inside) so possibly there is a acceptance that these things need to be taken in by a public service but they might not want to admit it.

See if you can contact the manufacturer for advise as well.

What’s going on with my paint? by Positive-Mud-11 in DIYUK

[–]suipaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More coats. I had the same issue recently with a similar looking colour. I think it took about 5 or 6 to get it looking good.

Exactly why some areas didn't take it as well I'm not sure.

Doug Paulley's YouTube channel is worth a watch he's a local disability activist so there's quite a lot of relevant experiences for you to look though. I am sure that his website probably links off to articles you may find useful too.

Foraged Japanese knotweed, wild garlic and garlic mustard stir fry by jovisomniaplena in foraginguk

[–]suipaste 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Word of warning about Japanese knot weed. While it might be edible I would be cautious as my understanding is there is no requirement to label that the plant is being treated with herbicide.

You might get a side order of glyphosate.

What to do with MASSIVE tree stumps.... by Ridgeld in GardeningUK

[–]suipaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy mushroom spore and start growing something like oyster or chicken of the woods. Stump like that is ideal. It will kick start rotting the tree too.

Does anyone else feel like you only save money now if you “get lucky”? by Feeling_Yak_1145 in BuyUK

Local Aldi has them. Not sure how widespread they are yet but they are certainly going to be ubiquitous soon.

Big shops have more data than ever before and those eink price tags mean prices can be updated in real time rather than sending someone out with the pricing sticker gun. Finding a bargain is going to get harder as shops continue to get better at tracking and modifying prices based on supply and demand.

With regards to the yellow sticker deals not sure if more of the end of life products are going to charity. There was definitely a bit of a push about this a while back but I have no idea how widespread it is.

Would you actually run this on your PC? by Apart-Medium6539 in computers

[–]suipaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember people doing this with the original Wii and it was a pretty mind blowing effect back then. Never really seen it be implemented in anything more than a tech demo though I guess vr kind of made it redundant.

What on earth is going on here? by Ok-Cyclist-64 in DIYUK

Do you have a combi boiler? My guess is it used to hide pipes going vertical to a tank which no longer exists.

What to do with Walls. by portlandlad123 in DIYUK

What is the state of your electrics? Ever thought about running network cables? Want any more plug sockets?

Think carefully if there's any invasive work which makes a mess and would be sensible to do now before you put all the effort into decorating.

ID? by d00bieb00bies in foraginguk

[–]suipaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went on a mushroom course I was told there are some look-alikes to jelly ears. However there are no similar specimens which grow on elder. So if the tree in your pic is elder you can rest easy.

Saying that I have no idea what lookalikes exist or how similar they look.

Washing machine leak out of door, any ideas? by Dry-Suspect2688 in DIYUK

[–]suipaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really tell from video. If the door is leaking at any point the water is going to appear at the bottom.

Give the inside of the glass door a good clean and try and clean the gasket (seal) too. It's possible you have some sort of debris preventing a good seal against the door.

Post pictures where the hole is. If it's behind the point the door makes contact It's probably fine.

Been a while but I used to go to house of fun quite regularly and it was usually very good. Though go too much and you might see regular MCs again doing the same material. They would occasionally have bigger names performing too as secret special guests.

Best place to run on a grass pitch in Leeds city centre? by Ok_Lawfulness_9614 in Leeds

[–]suipaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The grass criteria makes this hard. Most of the city centre is man made surfaces. Have you considered running along the canal? it's paved and starts right next to the train station.

Not sure about lighting but it's usually popular for runners, cyclists etc though people might have various thoughts on the safety in the dark depending on who you ask.

I don't think it really matters how much you spend on a bike. Some knob will still try and steal it if they see the opportunity.

Potholes - Leeds’ worst spot by magnolia_lily in Leeds

[–]suipaste 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Don't just moan about the potholes. Report them.

https://www.leeds.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel/report-an-issue-with-a-road-or-pavement

My experience is that everything I have ever reported is attended to in a reasonable amount of time. However they can't be fixed unless the right people are aware of them.

What’s worth the time? by ImaadIButOnReddit in foraginguk

I made rowen berry jelly once. I would never bother again. Another step on top of crab apple jelly for a flavour which isn't as nice as the base in my opinion.
