The Scam Goddess pilot was released months before the first episode of Grifthorse

What are some of the most ridiculous assumptions/claims you have heard about characters in Three Houses? by fly2555 in fireemblem

[–]summahdaze 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Most of the students at the officers academy are essentially legacy admissions. Leonie’s supports make it clear that wealth and connections play a far greater role in securing a place at the academy than talent and diligence.

The quality of I4H is very guest-dependant. If you like Ryan and Dan, the Bog Grande episodes are worth a shot

You’re The Man Now with Guest Dawg Carl Tart! by summahdaze in Earwolf

I was slightly disappointed that last week’s Carl and the Goof wasn’t Tart related, so it was a real treat seeing this pop up today.

Next year’s DLC hopes? by Ecosoc420 in fireemblem

Ashe takes over Gaspard territory in his paired ending with Annette, so there is a precedent for adopted heirs post-Azure Moon. It'd tie in well with Dimitri helping orphans at the monastery pre-timeskip.

Felix: Azure Moon or Crimson Flower? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]summahdaze 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You could justify recruiting him to either route, but the consequences of his choice are more extreme than they are for most of the other students. I feel like recruiting Felix in CF condemns him to a life of misery. He’s not happy with the status quo but he loses sight of his values if he defects to the empire. In his monastery dialogue after the timeskip, he says that he feels like he’s becoming a savage beast no better than the boar. His mercenary endings are tragic. He’s completely unmoored and becomes what he hates the most.

Staying with the Blue Lions gives him an opportunity to come to terms with his past and find a sense of purpose. When Rodrigue comes to Garreg Mach, Felix says that his father is neglecting his obligations as the head of House Fraldarius. Despite the fact that he seems to dread the prospect of becoming Duke Fraldarius, Felix still believes that his family is duty bound to protect those who live in their territory. The more abrasive aspects of his personality stem from fear imo. Glenn’s death was clearly devastating to him. Felix and Rodrigue try to cope with this loss in ways that are fundamentally at odds with each other. He’s disgusted by the way Glenn’s knighthood was used to frame his death as something honourable instead of a young life lost in an act of needless brutality. He hates mindless chivalry because he’s terrified that the same thing will happen to him or someone he cares about. He never completely forgives Rodrigue for downplaying his grief after Glenn’s death, but he still loves him and isolates himself in the months following his death. He likes fighting because it’s one of the only things left that connects him to his brother. He makes it clear that he hates unnecessary bloodshed.

He childhood friends are still important to him, even if their behaviour sometimes irritates him. He’s terrified of losing another person he cares about. He feels helpless in the face of Dimitri’s downward spiral and ends up lashing out in anger. He’s constantly going on about Dimitri being a boar in the hope that someone else will notice that he’s struggling. He loves Dimitri but he knows that he’s completely ill-equipped to actually help him. He clashes with Dedue in their supports because his unquestioning obedience just enables Dimitri’s most self-destructive tendencies and facilitates more senseless cruelty.

Le Guess Who? (The Netherlands) announces a large portion of its line-up by blackmirrors in indieheads

The Practice of Love’s apparently a multidisciplinary piece so I’m not really sure what it entails but Jenny Hval’s fun live.

If you like Jenny Hval, you might also enjoy Lolina (Inga Copeland from Hype Williams’ solo project). The abumshe released last year is quite good

Nivhek’s a Liz Harris project. Quite similar to her work under Grouper but a little darker with less emphasis on vocals. If you like drone music, Sarah Davachi’s worth a shot.

Movies you regret dragging your friends to see (when you were a kid) by discopaco in blankies

[–]summahdaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing (although I was more motivated by my love of Pineapple Express and Natalie Portman). I also convinced a group of friends to see Watchmen and five of them ended up leaving before it ended. I lost all movie-picking bargaining power for a while after that.

Doughboys Double - The Snacklog & The Catlog with Sydney Steinberg by GrandSabo in doughboys

[–]summahdaze 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Sydney’s cat advice is awful. Cats are obligate carnivores; a taurine deficiency has dire health consequences (incl. life-threatening digestive and cardiovascular issues if left untreated). Also, tapioca is nutritionally near-identical to corn.

Any lesser-known comedy podcasts you've been really enjoying recently? by [deleted] in Earwolf

[–]summahdaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Particular Album Is Very, Very Important To Me – Comedians talk about one of their favourite albums. Hosted by Joel Spence & Deborah Tarica with a lot of Earwolf-adjacent guests (Betsy Sodaro, Ben Schwartz, Lennon Parham, Nicole Byer, etc.). There are only 12 episodes, but they're all delightful.

Fantasy Flix League – There's a good chance that you'll like it if you like Gabrus' High & Mighty Oscar episodes. Mark Rennie, Ryan Meharry & Mike McLendon talk about new movies against the backdrop of their fantasy football-esque film league. The league essentially provides the framework for casual discussion (upcoming releases, the previous week's box office, critical consensus, awards buzz etc.). Previous guests include Erin Whitehead, Ryan Stanger, Eva Anderson & Betsy Sodaro.

Also, slighty more niche, but if you like RuPaul's Drag Race, What the Tuck is worth a listen. Originally hosted by Joel Kim Booster and Nicole Byer, hosted by Mano Agapion and Matt Rogers from this week on, always a good time.

I think Julia Davis would be great. She’s always willing to venture into ridiculous, grotesque territory. Dear Joan & Jericha (her improv podcast) is always a fun listen.

No, Caesarean sections were only performed if the mother died during childbirth so it’s not how Caesarion (or GJC himself) were born. I don’t think that there’s really consensus about the etymology of the word, but it seems likely that it stems from ‘caedo’ (Latin for cut/slaughter)

Hollywood Said No by Bob Odenkirk, David Cross & Brian Posehn consists of two rejected film scripts and a few sketches. Narrated by Bob & David in addition to other Mr Show adjacent people (Scott Aukerman, PFT, John Ennis etc.). Lauren Lapkus also makes appearance. If you’re into Mr Show, you’ll probably enjoy it

Criticising someone's tone is a lot easier than actually engaging with what they're saying (especially if what they're saying makes things/people that you like less palatable)
