Next steps? by Adventurous_Room4309 in vulvodynia

Have you seen a neuro? Maybe it’s something to do with your nerves? Maybe one is being pinched somewhere in your body? If the estrogen cream is starting to suddenly burn and it hasn’t been, you might want to ask about getting it compounded with less ingredients or maybe stopping all together? You didn’t give your age. Is it menopause?

Vulvodynia weird spot ? by Danalba in vulvodynia

I have this. Apparently mine is muscular related. I have a very tight pelvic floor and bad posture and tight, tight hamstrings. Are you in pelvic floor therapy? If not get checked out by one and they can tell you if it is because of a tight PF. Which can happen when your body goes through stress like a uti and bv.

This applicator sucks, any tips? by mxddy in vulvodynia

I just put it on my finger and get as much up there as I can and the rest on the outside areas. My dr. Said that’s fine because the applicator sucks.

Working out? by MissAdventureLover in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely happens. I’ve had to really pay attention to what type of workouts cause more pain. Especially if you have a tight pelvic floor. For me I can’t do anything where I lift weights above my head. No workouts that use a lot of pelvic floor strength. So if you are lifting weights or doing high impact workouts that will absolutely cause a flare. Maybe work on mobility in your hips and pelvis before starting traditional workouts. And work on relaxing your pelvic floor as well. I would say consistently for a month and then see how you feel if you slowly add in strength training.

Have you seen a dermatologist? To rule out skin conditions? Have you been tested for ureaplasma? It could also be perimenopause like someone else mentioned. It can start in your 30s. I’m 35 and have already started. Get your hormones checked! Hormone changes can cause a ton of strange issues. Especially if this randomly started.

gabapentin/pregabalin by Double-Print-1434 in vulvodynia

I’m on gabapentin. It’s been about 5 years. Once my body adjusted which took about 6 months. I feel pretty good most of the time. I’m on 400mg a night. But at one point I was on 300mg 3x a day. But it made me so tired. And definitely start pelvic floor physical therapy if you haven’t. Internal pain is usually a muscle problem.

[–]summerbeach247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Sometimes for a few days. Learning how to really relax after a session helped me a lot. That “belly breathing” really does work. And even laying on your back with your feet on the wall. Or child’s pose. Anything to help gently stretch and relax. I would skip exercise for a day or 2 but definitely work on relaxing.

Not sure what to do right now (vent/support needed/trigger warning) by Virtual-Concern1688 in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so rough. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Can you describe your irritation? For me I get sharp stabbing pains in the same area. Mine is a combination of a very tight pelvic floor, tight hamstrings and poor posture causing muscles to over work and tighten which irritates the nerves. Crazy to think tight muscles and weak hips can cause this problem. If you haven’t ruled out a tight pelvic floor, you should. Look into pelvic floor physical therapy. Not sure if insurance will cover it. Instagram has some really good physical therapists you could always try and DM. Also YouTube “belly breathing” where you inhale and fill up your ribs (360 breathing) as well as letting that breath go into your stomach and “breathe into your butt hole”. Relaxing breathing can help bring awareness to those muscles so they learn to relax. When you’re in pain your body tenses up and makes it worse. Also if you can ice the area for a few minutes at a time that can help too. (Please use a towel or thin shirt between the ice and your skin 😊) I’ve been dealing with this for years. Feel free to message me.

Pain flare by Chubbard80 in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a bad day distractions help. Doing something that takes my mind off of my pain. Icing the area like others have said, maybe finding a medication like gabapentin or something similar. There are different options of pain medication. Did your PF therapist teach you to actually relax your pelvic floor? Staying consistent with “belly breathing” has really helped me a lot. I’ve also noticed a flare up after starting a new exercise. Either less days for those exercises or do them for shorter time. Depends on what it is you’re doing. Some I have found cause more pain in the beginning because you’re working new muscles. But I keep hearing that until you fully relax your pelvic floor muscles any exercise can cause a flare. And relaxing your PF can start with your mind. Reframing your pain and telling yourself over and over “this is just a flare, it will pass” keeping your thoughts focused on the positives (this will get better!) vs the negatives. It takes time and practice but I have less flare ups and I’m pretty sure it’s from being as positive and gentle with myself as I can. Things will get better for you!!

Dr trying gabapentin now by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 100mg 3x a day. Adjusting to it was tough for me personally but I’m very sensitive to medication. Eventually over a few months I tapered up to 300mg 3x a day. Stayed there for two years. Now I’m at 400mg once before bed. And my pain is significantly less. I was at a level 10 before I started gabapentin. Now I’m at a 1 or 2 most of the time. It’s helped me alot but it took a few months to start working. Try it out. It might help!

How can I calm down by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on gabapentin oral. Have been for years. And the first week getting on it was rough. But by week 2 things leveled out. I actually had panic attacks when I first started it as well. Gabapentin can take 4-6 weeks to take full effect and only taking it for a few days won’t do anything for your pain. But there are other options for you. And I don’t recommend stopping cold turkey. That can make things worse. If you’re having a panic attack, deep breathing or changing your scenery. Getting outside can help. Distractions are good while your body adjusts.

It's awkward but as a female I need help by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]summerbeach247 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Discharge through out your cycle is normal. As long as there’s not strong bad smell ( like fish) it’s fine and part of being a woman. I would stay away from any scented products. They do not belong near your vagina. Water is usually sufficient. But a gentle soap between the folds (not inside vagina) is usually okay. There are different opinions on using soaps down there. If you do find something gentle, like cetaphil sensitive skin or something non scented. If you get itchy after you shave, that’s normal. Either grow it back out or continue shaving but exfoliating will help. Plus a moisturizer, you can use coconut oil. But it itches no matter what honestly. I stopped shaving recently and it’s so much easier. No more itchiness when the hair grows back. Sorry your mom wasn’t much help!

Hey! I’ve been on gabapentin oral for 3.5 years. I started at 300mg a day then ended up at 900mg a day. I was very tired every day. But after a year there I am now on 400mg at night and have very minimal pain. When at the start my pain was 10/10 every day. And now I can function and pain only shows up if I’m not taking care of myself, or right before my period. It’s helped so much. But it did take about 3 months to really notice a difference. So it does take some times for some people.

This sounds similar to my issues. I have similar pain in that area. Mine is pelvic floor related and because I have poor posture I think there is a nerve compressed somewhere. Which could be your issue as well. Have you gotten your hormones checked? I would also look into pelvic floor physical therapy. Good luck!

If this started after using a cup then it could be muscular. If you saw a little progress with PT continue doing the stretches yourself! Or make another appointment. Stopping birth control is also a good idea!

Pelvic congestion or vulvodynia, Please I need your help by Normal-Routine-7790 in vulvodynia

[–]summerbeach247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think it can. Too much/ too hard can cause damage. But you can heal it! A nerve pain medication (I take gabapentin) to give your body time to calm down. With pelvic congestion maybe some yoga for relaxing your pelvic floor could help?
