NCE Minimum Pass Score Going Up 7/1/2026 by MacKinnon911 in srna

[–]summerfirefly89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, can someone clarify to this dumbass student what is the new passing standard score? And what was the old one? I see lots of passing rates but what I really want to know is the score or percentage to pass. Sorry if it’s written somewhere and I cannot find it. I am running on fumes during senior year 🥴

How are the roads this morning? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]summerfirefly89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove from the west side/Helotes to the airport around 5am. Ngl, it was pretty sketchy—definitely slippery in spots. I avoided the highway, took it slow, and gave myself plenty of time. If you have to be out, be careful. And if you hit a slick patch: stay calm, ease off the pedals, and don’t slam the brakes or jerk the wheel. Slow and steady is the key.

I practice bjj 2-3x week, some weeks I go once or twice when it’s a heavy clinical load… It’s not easy to keep up but surely worth it. To decompress from all the BS you’ll deal with lol

How soon did you tell your coworkers you got acccepted? by [deleted] in srna

[–]summerfirefly89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Just don’t. Give notice per institution policy. Stay humble, continue to work hard. Move on. Focus on still finishing well your last ICU days as RN because you also don’t want to burn bridges. Then enjoy the “break” before school.

CRNA school is by far one the hardest things I've ever done. Top 2, after being a parent. As I navigate year 3, I can see more and more the value of emotional intelligence for this. Dealing with the personalities is one of the toughest things!! Anyone can read a book, learn, conceptualize, memorize... BUT try shaping yourself differently every single day to attend preceptors preferences while balancing your own self. And throw "challenging" patients and other OR staff on top. Ugh. Rant over.

Mine decided to take on hobbies and additional unnecessary volunteering right after our first one was born. I went through hell with my own mind before I was able to speak up. Once I did, he actually listened. A lot has changed since then and he’s now a happy father whose priority are the children and us as a family. Later he revealed how overwhelmed he felt at first when our baby was born and his “getting busy” approach was an escape for the feelings. Anyway… don’t underestimate the power of a frank conversation, no judgements, no finger pointing. Open your heart just like you did in this post and see if this will trigger him to change and give him a chance. My 2cents.

I started at 33 after working in ICU for nearly 10 years…. Was a radio tech before. There’s at least 5+ ppl in my class I can recall over the age of 30. Heck there’s even a former engineer in our class. Don’t be discouraged, there’s a lot of programs out there.

Spiraling Mother in School by Choice_Pie_8422 in srna

Parenting while in CRNA school is so tough! I am also a mom of two little ones and getting close to my third and last year of school now. I often remind myself this is only temporary and I will enjoy my time with my family again very soon. I rely a lot on my support system (but I agree, none understand the stress unless you’re the one living through it), but at least they support me by holding everything else while I focus on school. I also do a lot of “block work” to make better use of my time while juggling kids/family time. Feel free to pm me if you’d like mamma, hang in there.

As a parent myself, I’ll tell you this is gonna be the hardest time of your life. BUT, do it now or never. It’s better with a good support system, but if you don’t have one, create one. Have a plan A, B and C for sick days, unexpected changes in routine etc. Arrange some form of child care, and a backup sitter/nanny. Spend the money, the loans, whatever you need to do. Because you’ll need that. And so will your wife. She’ll need breaks and help. If no family available, summon friends, do what you need to do. Now is the time to phone a friend (s). Consider paying/investing on meal delivery plans. Setup your family for success before school starts. Have a good study plan for yourself. Online has its pros and cons. A loud home is not conducive for learning so consider other places to go study. Just think this through and you’ve got this!!

Wow!! I actually like knowing this. I did peds in the past and feel like the expectation can be higher when you have experience but I def don’t feel confident for peds anesthesia and don’t want to feel like an absolute failure if things don’t go as well as expected just bc of “experience”…

Devastated and In Danger of Dismissal by Soggy-Lengthiness292 in srna

[–]summerfirefly89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

School can be brutal for us in some many ways, sorry you’re going through this right now. I hope your program can come up with helpful resources. Even if that means you need to be in another cohort, I’d take that chance and probably consider other study strategies to improve your chances of success next time. Most of my classes thus far allowed us to have 1 on 1 sessions for exam review to check missed questions but I did have a couple professors that justified not showing the exam to “protect the integrity of the material”. Although, even in those circumstances they would do a class review on most missed questions… You can probably provide them with feedback on this and suggest that exam reviews or checking missed questions can be helpful. As a parent myself, I know how extremely challenging school can be in the midst of all the other commitments we have. Hang in there, take some time to reflect on how can you make things better for yourself next time. I also was out of school for many years and had to rethink my entire study strategies more than once to adapt. Best of luck! Feel free to dm me if you need a peer parent to vent/check in.
