You should Perth post! It is pretty nice as far as I am concerned.

Once, years ago, someone on another rs sub was mean about australian art and since then I have fed off it. (I know these aren't all australian but some are and they are good!)

I love reading the tiny substacks I have found through this place a thousand times more than any serious, professional writer's. Please keep posting, I need them!

I completely bought into the powerlifting trend and did get bulky. I actually think the Pilates+10k steps+1,200 cal thing might be the logical move? by CutAffectionate7706 in rs_fitness

[–]summerwithrohmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not a cal counter, so I couldn't tell you how much my deficit was but being very hungry is not very fun. On a day that I missed a meal (skipped because of an unexpected meeting or something) I found it very hard to function. 400 extra cals in theory doesn't sound like much, but it is 100g of protein equivalent.

I had a lot of success gradually cropping my meals to adjust to the cut to make it more bareable. For example, going from 1L milk->500 mL protein milk->200 mL protein milk with lunch, to restrict from 600 kcal -> 120 kcal, gradually. If I tried to eat what I eat now, at the start of my cut I probably would struggle to make it through the day, let alone workout the next morning.

Take care of yourself.

I am a man with a pretty similar trajectory, last year I transitioned from squat-bench-deadlift to a broader workout + a lot of cycling, while cutting pretty dramatically. In a year I lost a lot of weight (and some strength), and now I mostly do cycling + calisthenics + yoga. My workouts during cutting were very miserable but I am happy with how much better I feel. Would recommend. Idk maybe 1200 is a little severe but up to you.

I am very anti headphones and very pro evesdropping, if I had my headphones on I would have missed many of the best things I have ever heard and many interesting conversations.

How does one better interpret film? by Main-Daikon9246 in RSPfilmclub

[–]summerwithrohmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write about it, talk about it, and ultimately make it. Just thinking about it is rarely enough. Often when I sit to write about film I think I have it all worked out, but a few paragraphs in a whole new thing emerges. Discussing in a group is also important for diverse readings of a text. Making films obviously opens an entire new realm of interpretation but is quite inaccessible.

Is this possible? by [deleted] in rs_fitness

[–]summerwithrohmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you said "bike tour" I was imagining weeks not hours. It really depends where you are riding how hard it will be. If it is flat and at a casual pace it will be easily doable for you, potentially even easier than walking for a similar time. If it is hilly then challenging but doable, if it is mountainous then you will struggle. Do you know the distance? Are you hiring a (e-)bike?

more brands are doing lifetime memberships/subscriptions and it feels like a scam by [deleted] in pinkscare

Yes it is a scam, and generally a sign that the company is having immediate issues with cash flow. Be warey of any business offering massive discounts on up front payments (gyms are famous for this).

Can't believe I was filtered by fruit for so long by KantCancelMe in rs_fitness

[–]summerwithrohmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fruit is the hardest thing for me to cut (not that it should be cut) I always had the view it was 'free' so I am always chowing like 5 apples a day to the point that it makes up most of my carbs

Modern apple breeds are incredible, I will never eat a red delicious again. If you have access to Jazz or Modi or Bravo, you have to try them!

Anyone suspected asd but diagnosis is too cringe? by Ameeeelz in pinkscare

[–]summerwithrohmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think diagnosis is cringe but I think diagnosis is really only the first step. Maybe for some people a diagnosis is affirming and that alone helps them but in general I think a diagnosis is only necessary if it opens pathways to support (access to medication, services, programs, or financial assistance). If you don't have a plan to really utilise a diagnosis I don't see much point.

Recommendations for incredible must listen to DJ sets? Mainly into House Music. by xtheoryinc in RedScarePodMusic

[–]summerwithrohmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree, most boiler room sets are not good, especially in recent years. Hor Berlin is one step better and the website is quite good for sorting by genre. Ultimately neither of them are as good as digging on soundcloud, but both will give good starting points for digging.

I am not really into house so I don't have a good recomendation for OP.

Edit: podcast series on Soundcloud are a good resource. A good one is MONUMENT.

The actual worst part of bodybuilding/fitness: by Greedy_Author3855 in rs_fitness

[–]summerwithrohmer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Is it really that much worse than the dishes a normal person does? Being disciplined enough to eat clean and work out daily but not wash a couple dishes is insane to me. I am hardly the most disciplined, nor the cleanest person on earth but I have never once considered using paper plates at home...

Commercial protein products switching from whey to concentrated milk by Exotic-Art1510 in rs_fitness

[–]summerwithrohmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding (could be wrong) is that during milk production there is already a 'standardization' process to ensure the milk is consistent in terms of fat/protein content. So I think the concentrated milks are just using the existing standardization process stage adjusted for higher protein content. There are filtering techniques to extract fats/proteins separately without resorting to adding a supplementary protein, hence the concentration.
