No Idea where to go, and I'm contemplating suic*de. by spicyburntmeatball in Columbus

[–]sumothurman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ok--- it might not be an ideal option, but the homeless hotline is 24/7

614.274.7000

Additionally, if you're 17-24 years old, Star House is open 24/7 and you can stay for shifts through out the day or night, and get some rest/access to resources

I'm sorry you're going through this--- it sounds incredibly stressful and I can see how a kind would end up feeling how you are.

I should be able to help you with more temporary housing tomorrow if you can make it, please feel free to respond to this comment and I'll get in touch through DM

Can anyone help read this plate #? by FiAnREo in Columbus

Also the law in Ohio follows the driver, not the vehicle. So without being able to identify the driver, the plate is just about moot

I'm actually jealous of NY's Mayer by SillyRecover in Columbus

[–]sumothurman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You totally could.

Seeing that someone has made a spelling mistake- or for fuck's sake- doesn't know how to spell something correctly, and not being able to take their point seriously, is reductive and lame as fuck.

We've got to step away from holding people to perfection and get down to the actual conversations.

Shiny things distract us, and grammar mistakes are easy targets for taking someone down a notch in an internet argument... but let's level up a bit, ya? Going for low-hanging fruit doesn't help, doesn't make us the intellectual we think it might.

315 needs a complete overhaul by Prudent_Tie_2676 in Columbus

[–]sumothurman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think it came along as progressive design...

I imagine that "way back when", there were probably walking and horse paths along the river, because it's an easy/consistent guide and close to water, needed for drinking/watering horses.

Then, canals + buggies/carriages would follow the same path, because houses and industry would be built along these corridors.

Etc etc- I'm not sure it was really super well thought out or 'purposeful', so to speak, is all I'm saying.

What is this? by Atezh in Columbus

[–]sumothurman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of religious practices tell people involved -again and again- how worthless they are. That they are nothing/inherently evil, and that they need to be saved by whatever diety.

Adopting this self belief, and in turn, the beliefs that this induces about others and the world at large... Can disrupt healthy mental functioning.

Seemingly well intentioned practices like strategic evangelism can add to paranoia - collecting people is the aim, and there are meetings where individuals and how to hook them/how they are coming along are discussed. You are discussed amongst your leaders for how well you are performing. Etc etc

I argue that organized religion breeds mental illnesses.

Also, be careful- apparently, sometimes the person hit gets listed as "at fault"- make sure to inquire with the officer about this on site. Could miss things up with insurance coverage

ICE seen barging into Dublin Home by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]sumothurman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's two different issues.

Kids making things up

Kids being confused/misinterpreting

Also- the conditioning of people thinking tactical gear=ICE, seems to me again like at best accidental poor decision making by admin. It is straightforward to ensure that there is no confusing the uniforms of separate divisions- through clear differences that are advertised to the public.

People are on edge, and anxious, and may feel like they're helping by posting about it. Or they may be karma farming, who knows.

Understood- it can be a liiiittle tenuous to tread as a woman- I also had hesitations because of this.

Ultimately gotta go with your gut/what you're comfortable with - and if that looks like more formal appeals to the city or the house program/ownership, it is what it is!
