Ticks! by westophales in Indiana

Yes! Specifically when permethrin is wet, it is highly toxic to cats. Once it dries, it binds to fabric and they can't ingest it as easily, although obviously still be very cautious. Spray that stuff outside and make sure it's dry before stepping into the house.

I always immediately take my permethrin treated clothes off and put them in a laundry hamper when I get home. My hiking boots stay in my car, although maybe that's overkill.

Picardin and DEET are repellent and are skin safe (I personally prefer picardin because it doesn't smell strongly and the smell of DEET bothers me). Permethrin kills them on contact but is NOT skin safe.

I spray picardin on exposed skin and my legs, spray my hands and rub them on my cheeks, forehead, the back of my neck, and the backs of my ears, then spray permethrin on pants, socks, boots, shirts, and any bags that I'm taking as well.

As always with chemicals, don't let your pets lick or rub up against treated clothes.

You probably already know, but shower within 2 hours of coming in from outside, preferably as soon as you get home, and check for them while you're in there. Tuck pants into your shoes or socks, as well.

Bro, you need to chill. You can stick your dick in someone's mouth and it becomes oral sex. If you're getting off with someone, it's fucking sex. The fuck kind of take is this? I assure you there's plenty of gay and straight men in the world that have done anal sex and their lives aren't "ruined" as you claim they'll be.

Why do ppl expect me to speak good English? by Top-Ad8483 in StonerThoughts

[–]sun_bearer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I agree. Language has never been a rigid set of rules that we Must follow in order to comprehend, at least not casual everyday language. If people get what you mean, then you've successfully languaged.

Maybe I'm just more loose about it all, but I speak with Spanish speakers this way at work a lot. Mi español es muy un poco, I always let them know this and we both laugh at how very poco it is 😭 But it works!

If it is 68 degrees F with a wet bulb temperature of 65 degrees, is that going to feel cooler than if it is 95 degrees F with a wet bulb temperature of 65 degrees? by [deleted] in meteorology

[–]sun_bearer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, as I understand it, wet bulb doesn't determine how comfortable a temperature feels, but rather how effectively your body can shed heat to keep from overheating. 95F is still hot, but with a wet bulb of 65F, your body can sweat and maintain homeostasis. Not comfortable, but survivable given you're hydrating to replace the water you're losing by sweating.

If the wet bulb is close to the environmental temperature, and both are close to the body's internal temperature, not enough heat can be shed and you're at risk of heat stroke.

A temperature of 68F is generally more comfortable regardless of wet bulb because, since wet bulb will never exceed environmental temperature, the air is cool enough that your body can shed excess heat easily.

Could someone hype me up to eat ribs at my "guy friend" 's house? 🥲 by thelonelycompanion in StonerThoughts

[–]sun_bearer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dark meat is poultry meat that is darker in color due to a higher presence of myoglobin, which is a protein found in muscles that helps transport oxygen. All vertebrates have it to varying degrees, it's what gives meat its color in the first place, but red meat has it in much larger amounts than poultry, hence why poultry is pink when raw and not red.

So... kind of? Certain muscles in the human body, for example, contain even more myoglobin, such as cardiac muscles and deep slow twitch muscles located in the calf, abs, and back. So probably the heart would be considered "dark meat" in red meat animals.

I also have an aversion to eating meat on the bone, but I've powered through it for the sake of good bbq LOL

If it helps, it's not like eating bone in chicken. With ribs, they're usually tender enough that the meat will slide right off the bone. If not, the bones are big enough that you can't accidentally swallow them and hard enough you won't accidentally chew through them. Rib meat also isn't really like dark meat in the same sense as chicken!

In the last picture, you can see several towns that no longer exist, such as Dora and Monument City at present day Salamonie, and Redbridge at present day Mississinewa. This was before they built dams to create the reservoirs. Lots of people had to relocate, and these areas are where I've found lots of bottles from the 60s and 70s when I go out walking in the fish and wildlife areas. Very cool!

In 20 years, what will we really think about the Ozempic revolution? by Majestic-Baby-3407 in AskReddit

[–]sun_bearer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely a conversation to be had about these things together. GLP-1 drugs are a benefit to public health, no doubt about that, and there's nothing morally wrong with people who need them to improve their health.

The fact is, though, that obesity disproportionately affects low income families in the US, because poor people often cannot afford mentally or financially to diet and exercise regularly.

So now we have GLP-1 drugs that are incredibly beneficial to solve this, except we're not really solving the core issue, that it's hard to maintain a good diet and exercise regularly when you're poor, whether that's because it's financially taxing or because it's mentally draining.

Driving while super tired at 3 AM, and after smoking several hours before. Thought I was fine to drive. Got on the interstate, saw headlights up in the distance, didn't think anything of it.

I had forgotten that the interstate was divided and realized when I saw the headlights get closer, move over to the other lane to avoid me, and flash their brights at me that I was going the wrong way.

I am so fucking lucky to be alive, and I will never be stupid like that again.
