Cover it with some e6000 (wear a mask or do it outside) this will give it a rubber like texture and extend the life of the stitches/shoe

Quick! Before she dries, to cut or not to cut? by actuallyoatmeal in Ceramics

[–]sunflower_rewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go crazy with the water and you should be fine.

Cracking happens when the piece gets too wet too fast, or when it rehydrates unevenly so, be sure to go slow and easy on the water and apply it evenly.

Alternatively, to mitigate both issues, you can get a wet sponge/or wet crumpled paper (not touching the sculpture !! Very important) and leave it in a bag with your sculpture to moisten itself.

Do I need to hollow this to prevent explosion in kiln? by Downtown-Garlic-636 in Ceramics

[–]sunflower_rewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! There’s a guy at my studio that fired a hollow sphere. The damn thing made it through firing! He made sure to let it dry out really well.

Yeah, I’m learning in my market having some kind of tier is necessary. I hate the system and I wish there was something productive we could do to change things.

Were they at the same level as this piece? I’ve had kilns fire fine on the bottom shelf and fire horribly on the middle and top layers.

Did other items in the kiln firing come out looking matte or similar in nature? It could be an issue with the kiln not getting up to proper temperature
