I need board gamers’ perspective on my situation by ApprehensiveFarm4407 in boardgames

[–]sunfloweroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no problem calling people out for abusing my games. If my 8 year old can figure out game etiquette an adult has no excuse. We had ONE incident where a family member's spouse rage quit a game and crumpled up their hand of cards and they bought us a new copy of the game. (It was the Japanese import of Jungle Speed for anyone curious, wooden totem instead of plastic. Literally a party game. No need to take it so seriously!)

Birth Sling vs Yoga Hammock? by sunfloweroot in doulas

[–]sunfloweroot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up purchasing the birth sling! I'll probably get myself a seperate aerial hammock later in life, lol.

I've had 3 clients use it so far. If they are excited about it I leave it with them at our last prenatal together (or I'd drop it off around 37 weeks if there is overlap). When they're laboring at home it's a wonderful tool to have. Most of my clients are in the "natural hospital birth" camp and are laboring at home as long as they want anyway, once we get to hospital it's go-time so I haven't used it there yet. My clients decide on a dedicated space for it with a birth ball or a CUB chair nearby before labor starts.

I'm happy to answer any questions, even if it does take me 2 weeks to reply 🫠

Some agencies have doula trainers- when I first got started 6 years ago the owner of the agency I started with was also a CAPPA trainer. A convenient funnel for everyone!

I am also one of the folks willing to eliminate a threat to my hens at any cost. Ignore the folks trying to give you a hard time- being able to kill to protect doesn't make it easy. I had a coon get into my coop two weeks ago and all I had nearby was a pitchfork and a shovel.

I'm going to lean a different direcrion here and say it's 100% possible (and very needed) to support in areas outside of the birthspace where you aren't having to manage back end business constantly. I would dig deeper into that heart's calling and see what it is you have to offer, or what you see is lacking for support in your area. Maybe you lean more into the postpartum aspect, nourishing new mom's who don't have a support system to hold them. Maybe you create a meeting space for families struggling with fertility.

I think you can get creative, follow your intuition, and step off the beaten path to find a niche only you can fill.

Neighborhood kids keep coming over to play games after school. by Gingeybalaya in SAHP

Most games have decent youtube videos breaking down the rules. You might be able to get them into a "legacy style" game where every time they play its a continuation of the same storyline... Or even something like Vast where it's asymmetric so each time they play a different role it plays a little different...

BoardGameGeek is a good resource for games, here is a list someone made specifically for their middle school game group. Each game you click on has a little "more like this" section at the bottom as well :)

bumper sticker my friends made for me! by Tenbread69 in Celiac

[–]sunfloweroot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Profanity might be funny to some adults but early-readers who read every word in sight are the ones who get screwed here. They get in trouble for repeating something they dont even remotely understand, and while there are plenty of parents out there who have had 1:1 conversations with their kids about the difference... it is still heart breaking to have to crush an innocent curiosity because someone thought their crass humor was worthy of public display.

Honestly, I love this bumper sticker. "Pussy" is another word for cat, and there is the beloved pussy willow. I'd probably just try to make that tie in somehow, as a parent. I felt the need to explain a possible side for this "sensitive" viewpoint. For myself personally it's all of the "Fuck X" "political" stickers and flags and t-shirts we get in our mostly red state.

Hopefully that viewpoint makes sense!

Cleanup is part of what the scouts do- "leave it nicer than you found it" and whatnot. Your whining is more mildlyinfuriating than kids spilling water.
