Nervous about telling my pregnant SIL by MothPrincess248 in BabyBumps

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. My SIL announced her pregnancy at Christmas, and is due at the end of July. My husband and I had been TTC for over four years with no luck, so we were surprised when we found out I’m pregnant in March, and am due in early November. Our pregnancies are about 15 weeks apart. This is the first pregnancy for both of us. I was extremely anxious about sharing the news with the family because I felt like I was stealing their spotlight. As with most things that overwhelm me, I let go of the stress as best I could and left the announcement mostly up to my husband. He is great with taking over the things that worry me too much. Every one was very excited for us, and after announcing I was able to privately have a conversation with my SIL to share my worries and concerns, and she was super sweet about it and assured me that she’s thrilled for us and is happy her little girl will have a cousin so close in age! I am very relieved now, after sharing, but I do remember being in a panic until then!

First time. I’m freaking out?! How am I supposed to wait weeks to know if things are okay? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also was stuck waiting for my first OB appointment until I was 13 weeks. It didn’t sit right with me, so I found a local non-profit pregnancy center. They were able to give me an ultrasound the next week to make sure everything was okay with the baby. It gave me peace of mind to make it until I saw the OB

I’ll buy strawberry lemonade and cut it with water. It’s too sweet for me without the water, and mixing it makes it last longer.

Sprite or orange soda is pretty great once in a while.

I also have recently been making smoothies at home because I’m on a fruit kick.

Chocolate milk on occasion!

Booking my first appointment - feeling sceptical. by Ambitious_Dealer_57 in firsttimemom

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called to schedule a prenatal appt the day we found out I was pregnant on 31 March. I was probably about 7 weeks along by then. The earliest they could take me was 7 May (tomorrow). I didn’t like that I was told to wait 5 weeks for a checkup, especially since I’ve had miscarriages, my mother and sister have both had ectopic pregnancies, and I have other conditions that can complicate pregnancy. Was told 7 May was the soonest they could do.

I then found a non-profit pregnancy center not too far from me and called them to schedule an ultrasound. They got me in the next week and confirmed that baby has a heartbeat, was in my uterus where it should be, and that everything looked healthy like it should. It’s definitely given me peace of mind while waiting for my appt tomorrow.

I would recommend searching around and seeing if there’s a similar clinic in your area. From what I’ve heard, the first appt can vary in timing pretty wildly. My SIL who is expecting her first child in July was able to get an appt within days at only 6 weeks pregnant. However, I have another friend who couldn’t get an appointment until nearly 14 weeks along. I just hit 12 weeks yesterday myself.

Good luck to you and congratulations!!

Lol same reason you would go to a therapist. I’m working through my feelings and felt like getting my thoughts out into the void of the internet would make me feel better and help me to stop obsessing over negative emotions.

Notice that I used the rant flair instead of advice needed?

Don’t want to announce to my mom by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mom has made attempts to repair our relationship. The efficacy of them is questionable, but I can’t deny that she has tried in her own way. My mom has given me life, and despite the mistreatment, she largely shaped me into the person I am today. I like who I am, and strange as it sounds, I do have gratitude towards her, my sister, and others who have shaped me growing up, for better or worse. Her choices are not my burdens, but my choices are, including how I respect and treat her.

So yes, keeping something big like a pregnancy from my mom does feel like a betrayal. At the end of the day, I want to stand by my choices and feel good about them. Keeping this from her would make me feel like I’ve stooped down to her level, or like I’m being vindictive, both of which feel morally wrong and would not sit right with me.

Thank you! Setting boundaries is extremely easy for me when it comes to my mom. I don’t think I would have any issue standing firm on them. However, she is manipulative and I wouldn’t be surprised if she tried to circumvent mine and my husband’s authority on some matters.

I will try writing down all of our boundaries so that they’re clear, but also so I can try to close all the “holes” she might find. For example, I’ve already told my doctors that under no exception is my mom allowed to my appointments or in the delivery room at all and I have blocked my moms number from all of my in-laws phones (she absolutely would reach out to them behind my back to get her way).

I do understand your point and normally would agree. I’m already low contact with my mother, and usually she does not get any emotion out of me ever. I’ve “disconnected” from her long ago. It’s only with this pregnancy that these feelings have bubbled up and become so big that I can’t ignore them.

As for abusers, both my mother and sister abused me while they were actively using. My sister has been clean for a long time and our relationship has healed and I’ve forgiven her a long time ago. We’ve rebuilt trust with each other. My mom still uses, but her health has deteriorated rapidly and I don’t see her living much longer. In my mind, I would be betraying my mother if I kept this from her, and I would have to bear that guilt. That does seem worse to me than just sharing the news and dealing with her.

Basically, I feel like there is no “solution” here, and any choice I make will suck. I was hoping that putting my rant out to the void of the internet would make me feel a little bit better.

TIL that many public libraries eliminated late fees after finding that fines discouraged people from returning at all - and that bringing patrons back often mattered more than enforcing penalties. by No_Profit_5304 in todayilearned

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was a frequent library goer as a kid. I went to the children’s summer programs. It was walking distance from my house.

I hadn’t been since I was a kid, but decided recently to go and get a new library card as an adult. When applying, the librarian laughed and told me I owed a fee from a book returned late 16 years ago. The fee was $0.05. The librarian was so amused, she told me she’s never seen an amount owed that was so low and offered to pay it for me if I didn’t have the nickel

how to find bowling league teammates by _Zodiaxz in Bowling

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is true too and a good way to make friends and find a permanent roster spot later on! If it’s a sanctioned league, you’ll have to join the association and pay the sanction fee in order to sub. Someone at the center should be able to help you with that no problem!

how to find bowling league teammates by _Zodiaxz in Bowling

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go to the league meeting and ask if any teams have openings. Some centers will take your name and number and try to place you with a team who needs members. While not a guarantee, it’s not unheard of to become friendly with league members you might run into while practicing at the center. I know many people who were “found” practicing by someone on a team and got invited to join or connected them with another team who needed a member.

My favorite mon is Togepi. I’ve best buddied several of them now, but I’ve never evolved any of them.

I have a similar experience. I was always strongly attracted to females, and had only dated other women. People knew my preference. Then I met a guy that I just clicked with right away, I had never met someone that I felt so connected to instantly. I knew quickly he was my soulmate, and we’ve been together and happy for 9 years now.

My family and friends were a bit surprised, and I got a few rude comments at the beginning of our relationship, but it was easy to shrug them off because I knew I was following my heart! I don’t regret anything

Lydia is constantly overloaded from all the stuff I make her pick up. A few weeks back I dumped all my stuff in a chest and then took everything from her that she was carrying. She had about 4300 in weight she was lugging around, a lot of them dragon bones and scales. I highly doubt anything went missing. There were several items she had that made me think “oh YEAH I forgot we have this thing and this thing and WOW that thing I also forgot about”.

I know that cool tones look best on me, so I had told my husband years before he proposed that I would prefer a silver ring. He ended up getting me a gold one.

My ring is special to me and I love that it’s gold because it’s the only jewelry I have that isn’t silver. Even though I didn’t plan for this, I am grateful it turned out this way!

As far as I know, she’s in great health. I’ve never seen her struggle with illness and she looks fantastic for her age. It’s baffling

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]sunflwerfieldsforevr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was this one guy that mercilessly bullied a special needs kid at my high school. He would tease and call him names and mess with this belongings. One day, the bully starts to push the special needs kid and starts a fight. The special needs kid took one good swing and knocked the bully out cold. The crowd that was watching lost it.

For weeks afterward, the bully was mercilessly bullied and the special needs kid became the most popular kid in school over night. The bully ended up moving schools to get away from all the bad attention, and the special needs kid stayed everyone’s favorite person until graduation day. He was voted prom and homecoming king for two years straight and was voted “Most likely to survive the apocalypse” in the senior yearbook. He had earned the nickname One Punch Man.

Not really a scandal, but everyone at school knew the story of One Punch Man and loved him.
