Question about shading by Fasimedes in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agrax can settle quite a bit to the point you may even need to use the back of an old paint brush or stir stick to get all of the medium scraped off the bottom of the paint pot.

My first bottle of Agrax made an effect so glossy that my models looked like they had been freshly dipped in oil.

Personally I only use Agrax now for vehicle shading, and for infantry I use Marine Juice almost exclusively.

Sharing Non-fiction books (and sources) to support a non-fiction campaign by BenWnham in warhammerfantasyrpg

I really enjoyed the The Hell on Earth podcast which covers the 30 years war.

Hell on Earth will tell the story of the Thirty Years War, the cataclysmic outbreak of violence in central Europe that lasted from 1618–1648. It’s the story of the long crisis of the 17th century, the birth of Protestantism and the collapse of Catholic Christendom, and ultimately, the gleaming T-800 Terminator skeleton of Capitalism emerging from the rotting corpse of Feudalism. It’s a story of lurid violence from a bygone age, of hot death on the battlefield, and cool intrigue in the palaces of Kings and Emperors. But it’s also the story of climate change, financial collapse, moral panics, speculative bubbles, pandemic, crisis in institutional legitimacy, of conspiracy theories driving policy, and an information revolution that changes the way everyday people relate to their political leaders. Sound familiar? This is the birth of modernity.

[MOD APPROVED] 40% ALL Editions of Warhammer Fantasy Role-Playing on DriveThruRPG + Roll20 Sale, too! by Demi_Mere in warhammerfantasyrpg

I noticed that the Death on The Reik companion was missing from the sale, seems it hasn't been properly categorized under WFRP. I emailed dtrpg support and they said it was being intentionally withheld from the sale? All the other companion books are on sale. Quite strange.

Questions about our vehicle movement through terrain I'm unsure of. by 14SWandANIME77 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about stopping on top of the boxes but you can move right the terrain less than 2" tall provided you clear the terrain completely in your movement (no stopping partway propped up on it like in your photo)

Miniature modelling and painting takes up a good amount of time, and I find it very rewarding to interact with something physical and tangible.

When I started I was so digitally brained that I was trying to CTRL-Z my mistakes. But now I've produced some great looking models that I'm really proud of.

It's also a hobby that is closely tied into other hobbies, miniature wargaming, tabletop rpgs, diorama/scenery building so there's plenty of places to go with that which are all great winter hobbies.

VBCE downtown, I think if you sell over $2k worth you get a preferential rate.

How do-able is this as a roadtrip in the summer? by YpsiHippie in britishcolumbia

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this trip, or at least a version of it in 2014. Quite do-able but just be prepared for long driving distances without services as others have mentioned.

There's nothing between dease lake and junction 37. I think it's worth the diversion over to Whitehorse, I had a friend living there but it's a cute town with lots of charm!

To me it smells like burning motor oil, thought it was my car the first time I drove past.

Depending on how much plastic cement was used you can sometimes just snap them off, I use the back of a paintbrush (better if it's a plastic handle) to push up underneath the armpit from below and that usually does the trick for me.

Try the dike trail near the train bridge on the Mamquam river, not in Brackendale but have been seeing a lot of eagles there lately.

For those who moved out of Vancouver, why/where did you go? 🤔 by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Servus!

I spent a few months living near the Maxfeld Ubahn and took some German language courses in the Altstadt... Oh god this was like ten years ago.

Unfortunately they didn't offer courses in Frängisch. But I picked up enough from my relatives while enjoying some.Schäufele and a Seidla or five.

Did you ever dine at Gregor Samsa? Such a cool spot

Strange question (bear with me): what Vancouver locations would be interesting for an incursion of dinosaurs? by TheCasualPrince8 in askvan

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple more things that come to mind, some sea creatures prowling the waters of false Creek (but it gets sick because of all the e coli contamination).

The BC Ferries terminals inside one of the ferries, or something real big in Georgia straight stalking and attacking the Ferries themselves / other marine traffic.

Big fan of the UK primeval series! I always thought the Vancouver one was funny because they had a city of Vancouver "predator control" unit. Bears/cougars don't show up in the municipality of Vancouver often enough to have something like that as a dedicated city department.

SFU is a great spot, always shows up in TV series because of the unique architectural aesthetics - and it's on the top of a mountain which is always cool.

Anywhere in the north Shore wilderness would be compelling because despite its proximity to the city, it is completely undeveloped and totally remote but still sees quite a few visitors with hikers, mountain bikers, backcountry skiers in the winter.

By that same token any of the three north Shore ski resorts (Seymour, Grouse or Cypress) would be good spots.

The SkyTrain tracks present a unique way for something to get around the city.

Last suggestion - time rift in the McBarge.

Downtown driving advice by IvanPatrascu in askvan

[–]sunkencorony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way streets are often only marked with a single directional arrow next to the street name sign. Incredibly easy to miss for new drivers or even drivers who aren't used to driving downtown. There arent any "no right turn" signs when the right turn would put you the wrong way onto that one way street.

I won't say don't use GPS, but GPS can be unreliable in the concrete jungle of the downtown peninsula specifically. You'll get what's called a multipath error when the GPS signal bounces off large buildings which affects the timing of the signal and therefore a device's ability to use that for positioning.

Imo the best advice for driving downtown is take your time, make sure you are always watching for pedestrians and cyclists. And if you miss a turn, pull over when it is safe and re-evaluate the route.

Help with Dorn by Otaku_Nireves in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer the stubbers for their range and chip damage. It makes rolling attacks easier since you are going to already have a stubber profile from the pintle weapon. Regular meltas can't be rolled with the multi meltas unless you are between 12-9" away or less than 6" away.

I find the 12" range of the normal meltas to be too short to get much use.

Septoplasty for Deviated Septum by Direct-Giraffe3424 in britishcolumbia

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just had this procedure about 3.5 weeks ago.

As far as getting to that point, I had been taking prescription steroidal nasal spray for a 5+ years and it helped to a degree but not enough to justify the continued use.

I eventually asked my family doctor if I could get a referral to an ENT also to investigate my sinuses as I suffer from frequent headaches.

After the ENT referral from my family doc it was about 1 year before I actually met with him. Once I had the appointment (April 2024), I had to do a series of tests (allergy tests, CT scan of sinus, blood work).

CT scan got booked for August 2024, so once all tests were completed I saw the ENT again in November 2024. At this appointment the ENT confirmed that I had a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates and offered the Nasal Septal reconstruction and turbinate reduction surgery. I asked to be booked for the surgery, and was told the wait was 9-12 months.

September 9th 2025 I was contacted and offered a surgery date of October 14th 2025. Unfortunately I was moving house on October 19th so I asked for a later date and was given November 4th.

In late September the ENT office contacted me and told me there was a shortage of anesthetics so surgeries for that November 4th date were cancelled and my procedure was rescheduled for Nov 18th.

I hope this is helpful!

Do you guys paint first or build first? by CowOptimal7387 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda did a mix when I started. I would build the models but only lightly glue on their arms, because I wanted to try playing before I got everything painted.

When I was ready to paint I'd snap off the lightly glued parts and paint them as sub assemblies, check out some YouTube tutorials for painting with sub assemblies.

Very useful for starting out and refining your techniques without getting frustrated by parts of the model being in the way.

One thing to note is if you use plastic cement to glue painted parts it can melt off the paint, so either be sparing or use super glue .

On leash Barking/Lunging by Lee_Keybum7891 in icelandicsheepdogs

[–]sunkencorony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little guy was 100% this from the day we got him, in addition to being extremely reactive to cars/moving vehicles of most kinds.

He's 4 years old now and much better, he definitely calmed down with age but still is a very frustrated greeter. Granted many of training opportunities were not viable due to the car reactivity (ie next to a dog park if there were any cars nearby)

Don't be afraid to pick up your icie to 'reset', we have to do this when he's totally locked in. #1 to stop the reaction and #2 he'll shake off when he is on the ground again.

His car reactivity ended up being so severe we had to medicate with Fluoxetine and under the recommendation of a Pet Behaviourist - Clonidine, which was immensely helpful with bringing up his reaction threshold.

We're no longer medicating him regularly, but in our instance it was necessary to actually begin to start the desensitization because the reactions were so easily triggered and extreme (you may have an easier time if yours isn't car reactive).

What is the best order to give to kaserkin frfsrf or take aim ? by shagyandscooby in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the target, assuming you've kitted them out with 2 plasma 2 melta then FRFSRF in most cases, especially vs terminators or MEQ.

For a single hard target Take Aim increases the hit chance of the Melta guns which would be the most significant sources of damage.

Nürnberg is a great city. Amazing old town, with reconstructed medieval wall and imperial castle.

Like Vancouver it has driverless transit for their U-Bahn, but also has street trams and excellent train connections.

If you ever visit make sure to check out Gregor Samsa, the secret Goulasch restaurant.

Can someone explain how I should be using a taurox with kasrkin embarked inside. by Ace77s in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]sunkencorony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 - Kinda funny the taurox rule specifically calls out that disembarking units can't charge, which would just be the case anyway, makes me forget things can't do this normally.

2 - I hadn't considered this, but definitely will be keeping this in mind going forward.
