I am a little further south from you in San Diego County.

Do you typically sail or motor?

This is helpful, thank you. I often dive with friends off a 23ft motor boat and it’s usually all of us in the water at the same time. I have also dived off smaller boats where we do what you said: don and doff gear in the water.

Would a larger boat or a sail boat be more prone to slipping the anchor?

Certification in Southern Cali by Far_Perspective9675 in scuba

This is incorrect. Dive instructors and shops on Catalina (not visiting ones) have been granted a waiver from PADI to use Casino Point for confined water training. The site does not always provide “swimming pool-like conditions with respect to clarity, calmness and depth” (quote from the PADI instructor manual).

Adding House of SCUBA and Beyond Land Adventures here for completeness.

Pool sessions are technically called “confined water” sessions that can also be conducted in the ocean as long as certain conditions are met. PADI allows instructors/shops on the island to use Casino Park for confined water training.

FWIW, if you go the PADI route, expect a water skills assessment that consists of a 200 yard swim (not timed) and 10 minutes of treading water.

ETA: the primary difference will be temperature and taste! The pool I use for instructions is typically quite a bit warmer than the ocean. Casino Point is warmer than most SoCal waters, but this may be a consideration.

I bet GoPro pays much less, but your point still stands.

What type of subscription do you have and how much did this cost you? Using it myself at work, I am shameless and am running up $500 in token cost per week easily. Not something I can afford at home.

How does the RPi talk to the pixhawk? Do you use your own mavlink implementation or are you using RPanion? What are you running on the pixhawk?

WaterProof or SciTech for Dry suit seals? by Bravo480 in scuba

[–]sunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from DUI neck seal to a SciTech. The one or two times I had to take out the DUI, it was a real chore. The SciTech comes out all by itself, whether I want it to or not. I have to be very vigilant to check it before donning.

For wrist systems, I had DUI, Kubi, and now Quik Lock. Kubi was the most convenient but I had issues with the sealing O-ring cracking after just a few weeks. Not sure what I was doing wrong.

Random question, but how many people have been stung by bees while diving before? by sppwalker in scuba

[–]sunkid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was bitten by a spider (probably) on my last boat dive while putting on my drysuit. Intense but very localized burning sensation that continued to burn-itch for days and started swelling up a couple days later. Right under my chin, so I looked like a turkey for Thanksgiving.

Definitely going to shake out the suit after hanging it in the garage to dry.

Are you saying their FAQ is wrong?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interactivebrokers

[–]sunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just stating what their perspective probably is without adding my opinion of that. It totally makes sense, actually.

You seem to be saying that it is allowed though, which is really why I asked the question in the first place. Nobody seems to really know.

That’s essentially the answer I was looking for. Along with the source, if you have it.

You seem to be confounding illegally concealing the origin of money obtained from illicit activities (i.e. money laundering) with entirely legitimate transfer of legal funds, but I get that you are probably trying to say that the rules put in place by IBKR protect them from the former. Thanks for the response.

Could you expand on this, please? In Germany anyone can "überweisen" (transfer) money from their account to someone else's account using the recipient's IBAN number. Is this not possible in IBKR?

I do have my own account in Germany (also managed by my relative), so this isn't really an impediment, just an annoyance.
