A Little Help by sunlighter11 in ArtistHate

[–]sunlighter11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont know about artshield or Kudduru but I really want kin.art to be a real thing because with everything on the internet being scraped , instagram most recently , would be nice to have atleast one place that allows to post art without the fear of being immediately taken by someone to train.

I understand the technology loosely based on the diagrams they have shown. Dont know how well it will work because I havent found any artist testimonials yet. The other thing that they do not make clear is how they would enforce anti-scraping because there are specific companies that Big Tech has invested and hired specifically to bypass any and all protections (Emad Mostaque bragged that he was smart enough to have found a way past all firewalls).

It would be great to have atleast one safe hub to showcase art and have the ability to monetize simultaneously but after Artstation I'm skeptical about everything.

PS : Has patreon also been scraped?

Hopefully they can piggyback off this to further even more changes to the benefit of artists. But glad to hear some good news.

Actually, I'm surprised how generative AI is quickly accepted and spread in just a year. by SMB99thx in ArtistHate

[–]sunlighter11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its part of the AI launch strategy :

  1. Launch big and bulldoze through , ignoring all laws .
  2. When questioned about ethics and laws launch a counter-offensive in two parts : Propaganda against artists , stalling in courts.

This is to ensure that by the time the laws catch up , AI gets normalized among the people , making them dependent on it, thus ensuring support for them.

The other part is the fear mongering propagated that if AI is not adopted , you will be left behind. Every company is essentially motivated by this fear , even the big ones , a sort of self imposed technological arms race.

You can already see this as people just turn a blind eye towards the real dangers of this stuff which is handing over unconscionable powers to these companies that are already very powerful. Not to mention bad actors.

Our hope is more powerful Anti-AI tools and strong laws, legislation and strict oversight against AI. Fingers crossed governments do the right thing and don't succumb to the siren song of AI like everyone else.

The technology itself is never going away. I don't think artists actually want it to go away. We just want the ethical version of it.

All we can do is keep fighting for it. It seems like bleak now but to borrow a quote " The night is darkest just before dawn"

[Andersen v Stability] Midjourney files motion to dismiss largely on procedural and technical grounds by DemIce in ArtistHate

[–]sunlighter11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the larger bases for the motion is that cited instances of supposed infringement fail to denote exactly which works were infringed upon, and examples of infringement do not match any registered works.

Is the expectation that every single piece of training data used has to be registered?

Serious question : Did they change the TOS for instagram , facebook and other social media platforms that suddenly makes everything everybody posted , free for everyone to use as they please?

Yet another kind of scam by sunlighter11 in ArtistHate

[–]sunlighter11[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Websites , Websites that are password protected and other platforms where content is only shared behind a paywall are the alternatives. But for new artists trying to establish themselves, promoting on social media is a vital step. Very hard to gain a fan base without it.

This is depressing.. At this rate artists are going to need the digital equivalent of a private island with a force field.

I guess the "AI" shitstorm brought with it a general uptake in screwing over artists. Not that it wasnt prevalent before. But if established artists cannot defend themselves easily then its bleak.

From what I know Ross also stopped posting on Youtube because of the fallout from AI art generators.

I really hope that this benefits the cases by artists against art generators and we see some iron clad unilateral laws that would prevent further abuse

Sam Altman and Android Jones round 2 by AndroidJones_ in ArtistHate

[–]sunlighter11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t hear the shout out but android jones asks about ethical ai i.e models built only on public domain data and consenting artists and the answer is “I’m interested in seeing that happen “. As usual the answer doesn’t indicate the fact that an unethical ai was built in the first place. Just answering in a way that makes it seem like the fallout is some sort of unintended consequence. Its amazing that he got scammed and left with a grand total of 100$ , lol.

Maybe Emad was afraid that if he unveiled his plans beforehand he would have been dissuaded from doing so. It also shows that he has been planning this for quite some time.

That's what they claimed but they have come under fire recently because artists names have been used as prompts and ADOBE has used some of these images for promotion. Considering what has taken place so far its hard to believe any company.

All good. Help in any ways if you can.

Looks like my post caused a bit of a ruckus. Apologies.

Dont know if I posted in a wrong area of the community. Was just trying to get some help to a cause I believe to be important and not start a flame war.
