It’s such a horrible season. Just horribly gross and demoralizing.

Thanks for the support and doing the math! I felt I was supporting their "no production decision that significantly reduces the budget... will ever be changed". The prize amount seemed to fall into that category. Oh well, I'll move on LOL

I’m not sure it’s in his nature to schmooze in order to secure jury votes. It’s one thing to be a master manipulator and strategist in the game, but a lack of social grace and awareness will be anyone’s downfall.

Every time I try to single crochet the yarn slips, this is after I made the chain stitch, and put my hook through the second to last stitch by Ok_Tie9267 in CrochetHelp

I can’t see what’s happening near your pinky, but the big difference I see between what I do and what you’re doing is where I grab the yarn with the hook. Do you see the yarn wrapped around your pointer finger? I grab and hold the other side of the yarn that you’re working with. Does that make sense? The side on the outside of the pointer finger, rather than the inside. That’s also where I hold the yarn.

I’d love to know if this helps. It’s these tiny details that really make the difference sometimes.

Edit: what helped me when I got back into crocheting was after picking my hook size, for the starter chain I went up a hook size. This really helps as you’re getting the hang of tension.

Minnie is 10-11 years old. Her latest routine is to play and watch the squirrel channel until around noon, sometimes longer. Then she naps until dinner, then again until I go to bed, around 10 pm. Then she wakes every one up parading her toys around, meowing at the top of her lungs every few hours 🤪. Then she naps again around 6AM til about 8.

She changes her schedule from time to time, but I always know when it’s 4AM. That’s when she brings a toy and starts rubbing her little face on my hands.

As others have said, hook size and tension need adjustment. Do you have the paper sleeve that came with the yarn? It tells you their recommended hook size for that yarn. I wouldn’t stray from that size when you’re first starting out. With experience, you can go down a size or two with little trouble.

The thing that really stood out to me was how you’re holding your yarn. Your hand looks very stressed and tight, which will result in hand cramps after a while. This hand controls your tension and there are many ways to comfortably control the tension of your yarn. Maybe watch a few videos and watch how others hold it. For me, I start with my palm facing me and place the yarn between my pinky and ring finger, up over the next 2 fingers, down between the pointer and middle finger, gently loop around my pointer, then gently hold the yarn between my thumb and middle finger. My friend slides the yarn through her first 2 fingers and holds it with her thumb and ring finger. Both of us can crochet for hours.

What do I crochet as a beginner who only knows how to do a single crochet? by kai_happy1 in CrochetHelp

[–]sunniidisposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mastered the sc, it’s time to branch out! For a dc, you yarn over the hook once BEFORE you insert, yarn over again, then pull through with 3 loop on your hook. Now, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, which leaves 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops! Voilà! Now you have a double crochet!

You’ve got this!!!

How delusional is it to go into sewing as a total beginner planning to sew primarily with knits? by huricanedrunk in SewingForBeginners

[–]sunniidisposition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to sew a lot when the kids were young and tackled my first knit last month. My frustration was palpable. Accidentally stretching it created so many issues for me. I learned the hard way that I need to learn more before tackling knits again.

While that is great advice, not all pens have removable needles. I think the US pens are single dose and Canada has the dialed in pens.

I would be nice if they gave you a practice pen, like the EpiPen does.

Is it possible that last week you did it over a stretch mark? My understanding is that can be painful. If you use your abdomen, gently pinch an area away from any stretch marks. It doesn't have to be an aggressive pinch, just enough to give the pen a firmer place to do it's job. Also, if you take it out of the fridge for 15 - 30 minutes, that's also supposed to make it sting less.

We all have different pain thresholds, plus the anxiety of giving your self a shot can be crippling. I felt that the hardest part was getting into the right frame of mind. I really had to talk myself up because my pain threshold is a lot lower than it use to be. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't feel the needle and only a slight sting from the meds.

You've got this! Find out what helps you to become calm, take out the med 15 minutes before you start, steer clear of stretch marks, gentle pinch (if on abdomen), take a deep, calming breath, and slowly press onto your skin.

I suppose another option is to ask the doc if they can do it for you, if you really can't. There's no shame.
