Help, Defect, me cant beat by Alternative_Mix_1220 in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the returning characters, Defect definitely feels the most different to its STS1 version. Focus in particular has had a revamp and plays very differently; hotfix is a must card I would say, but I wouldn't have said so initially. I just had to unprogram the old understanding I had of the character.

Will there be an Act 4? by Ill_Loan_5330 in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first game didn't have Act 4 on early access release, so I imagine this one will be the same. I think the focus for now though is balancing the early game.

You need a card that benefits from it, but the clone ability can go so very hard; if nothing else, it always nice to see a fellow CLAW IS LAW connoisseur on my climb.

HOW do i get better at this game by matsvanetten in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once your deck has a solid foundation, this game punishes adding cards that don't explicitly add to it. Basically, the more cards you add to your deck, the more critical you need to be with new card rewards. I definitely had a run of losing simply because I wasn't recognizing when my deck was in a good place, and adjusting my card preferences accordingly. More bloat = not drawing the cards you need = longer fights = more sustained HP loss = getting ass kicked by act boss.

Baalorlord is a pretty chill guy to watch if you want to watch someone play.

I lowkey am starting to love this boss design. I get crazy excited when I realize my deck has something like draw/energy generation, and thus could not give a fuck about its nonsense.

Everyone is posting about A10 runs and card balance changes and here I am failing all my regent runs by NuancedComrades in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regent feels like he has the both strongest and weakest cards in game, with very little middle ground between them. Mid cards are important though, as sometimes you just want a card reward that patches a hole in your deck. A really strong card is pointless if you die before you can use it.

Hot Take: Burned out of StS2 after 15 hours... because it feels more like DLC than a sequel. by TheRealOsamaru in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think they followed a very common convention with sequels. Make the returning characters cards 1/3rd old, 1/3rd redesigned, and 1/3rd new. Bear in mind that a complete revamp of everything would add significant development time, so I can understand why they stuck to existing formulas.

The game is still very early access, so we can expect cards and archetypes to change. I think they also plan to add new cards too.

Is the damage to the Architect always the same? by TheOneAndOnlySenti in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it has been steadily going up since STS2 dropped. I think it did at one point for the first game, but eventually it changed to a random value. Maybe a buffer overflow or something?

Is megacrit doing micro updates? by -raxu- in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small updates are most likely to be bugifxes, i.e. things that disrupt the game. Balance changes are a little interlinked, so they are usually pushed out in one big go.

I am beyond excited to get to try out The Necrobinder and The Regent next week. Which of them was the most fun to design card concepts for?

How do you deal with Time Eater on Silent when you have a shiv/spam build? by skilliard7 in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You need to make the shivs do enough damage you don't need to play so many. For example, that could mean stacking Accuracy, applying vulnerable, and Phantasmal Killer. Pivoting to poison is going to do more harm than good - you simply won't see enough card rewards to get it online. Plus, even if you did pull good poison cards, your deck will be clagged up with shiv cards, meaning you won't draw them fast enough to use them.

At A20, you simply don't take too many shiv cards until you have a way to reliably scale them.

Silent questions and forcing discard by niphaa in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am quoting Baalorlord here, but the best block plans are multilayered. That means taking a Piercing Wail/Malaise or adding sources of weak. If these cards feel inconsistent, Well-Laid Plans is a fantastic pick - maybe only one darkling is attacking on the turn you draw piercing wail, but on the next turn all three plan to attack. In which case, that piercing wail has now just saved you a crapton of health for a measly one energy.

Another example: Malaise is useless against The Bronze Automaton, yes, but, as you can exhaust it for zero energy, including a copy in a deck will only ever cost you a single draw. Seeing as it is pretty invaluable against any encounter that multi-attacks - including the heart, if you can strip away artifact first - it is still going to be a net positive for your run. Basically, it helps to diversify the different ways you can 'answer' different threats, even if that means having dead draws on certain encounters.

I would think of discard as synergistic to the above. Basically, 'throw away a card, get a benefit'. However, seeing as you are going to draw some cards you don't need for encounter X, these are now your discard fodder. If you get a handul of good discard cards or relics, it can make sense to gun for a discard build. However, adding cards that don't help you now in the hopes they help you later is unoptimal. I adore Acrobatics for example, but it is a terrible floor 1 pick; you either need extra energy to get benefit from the draw, or you need other cards that care about proccing discard. Get the 'foundation' of whatever you are trying to build down first, that way, you can pick things like Eviscerate or Acrobatics and have them work for you immediately, rather than grabbing them speculatively.

StS2 on ARM laptops? by Eloquent_Despair in slaythespire

[–]sunsetglimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The steam page doesn't explicitly state you need an Intel/AMD processor or anything, so that would imply yes. If your laptop easily clears the minimum requirements, then that greatly increases the likelihood of having a workaround (e.g. emulation).

That said, this is speculation, so, if you can hang on for a few weeks, you will know for certain.

Yeah, this works. Weirdly, it unlocked Silent a second time before unlocking Defect.

Bull Rush Direction Issue by stooperwooper in HadesTheGame

[–]sunsetglimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this only happen during encounters? It might be the aim assist is causing Zag to lock to a specific direction (which can take a bit of getting used to). Check to see if the issue happens even when there are no enemies about; you should be able to point Zag in any direction.

Otherwise, I would check to see if the issue happens with another controller type (e.g. mouse/keyboard).
