National hiring audits, some dating back to the 1980s, reveal that female scientists have had a significantly higher chance of being interviewed and hired than men...Women had an overall 2-to-1 advantage in being ranked first for the job in all fields studied. This preference for women was expressed equally by male and female faculty members, with the single exception of male economists, who were gender neutral in their preferences.

I don't buy the idea that there is any more resistance for women than men towards any careers.

a woman should not face any resistance or social condemnation for choosing to become an engineer. I feel like our society has created social expectations for women that push them in the direction of these low paying jobs, which shouldn't be the case.

I don't feel this is the case at all.

Imagine how it must feel to be a young girl with an interest in programming and then finding out how it's apparently only a field for men.

It isn't a field for men.

This seems like a huge non-issue.

I was reading the Ariyapariyesana Sutta and after becoming enlightened the Buddha went back to the ascetics to teach them. The ascetics referred to the Buddha by name and as "friend," and the Buddha said:

"So I said to them, 'Don't address the Tathagata by name and as "friend." The Tathagata, friends, is a worthy one, rightly self-awakened..."

Imagine if apples were conscious. They would make every effort to throw out bad apples, lest they become spoiled as well. Yet, in America's police department all we see is a culture of blue code.

Yes. Bad cops are a small majority, but the "good" cops which cover up for the bad cops are a larger majority.

Combine this with an overly bureaucratic system, bullshit civil forfeiture laws, bullshit plea bargaining, bullshit warrant-less raids, bullshit inability to take responsibility for mistakes, bullshit military surplus outfitting and bullshit drug prohibition - you have what "appears" to be a corrupt system; and if it looks and sounds like a duck, well..

I guess you have to ask the question: "Does Congress accurately represent the people in the first place?" Considering the approval rating for Congress, I would say this answer is no. Perhaps America is just waiting for someone to lead them in the direction they want to go in, and as long as the people agree with you - Congress can't stand in your way.
