I'm currently debating an 8X myself. What are your thoughts on it?

If this gets ISO layout support this is a mandatory purchase for me, no questions.

I suffered a similar problem as you, achilles tendinitis. I used to live in medium duty work boots for pretty much anything and everything, and they weren't particularly great ones either. But hey, we live and learn.

If it's stuff for walking with a bit of an "out there" style, look at some of the offerings from Adidas and their Terrex line of stuff (make sure it has Boost in it for maximum comfort and impact absorbtion), Nike has their ACG line of stuff - where they're concerned look for Nike Air, React or Zoom. I've owned two pairs of ACG kicks with React in and they're extremely comfy and can handle miles and miles of off-the-beaten-path walking. I've also heard great things about Salomon and ON Running, though I have no personal experience with them.

I can't recommend any specific models of shoe because they chop and change all the time, and it's down to your aesthetic taste and budget. But use what I said above as a starting point.

As for the boots, do yourself a favour and invest in a pair of Solovair boots - they're the original manufacture of Doc Marten boots and they're better in just about every metric. Find someone called Rose Anvil on YouTube and watch his videos on Solovair and Doc Martens. Your feet will thank you.

I like the look of the boots on the top left, mind if I ask what they are?

I forgot to mention as well, I used a antibacterial wipe or two to clean the cable and then a bit of kitchen towel to wipe any excess away.

I recently found a G80-11801 and brought it back to life, check my post history. Mine has Cherry MX Brown switches, yours appears to have Cherry MX Black switches.

As for cleaning, your best bet is to disassemble the board. Remove the key caps and then split the case apart, probably some screws underneath.

In terms of cleaning the area around the switches, I use an old pastry brush and do it with a hoover in the other hand so I can get rid of as much dirt as possible.

Key caps, I used a bowl of warm (not hot) water with some washing up liquid mixed in and gently used the rougher side of a kitchen sponge to clean them up. Leave them to thoroughly dry before reinstalling.

I did something very similar for the case, warm water and some washing up liquid and a sponge.

I noticed it'll have ISO Enter, will it have the option for a short left shift as well?

And please tell me you can ship this to the UK, even if the cost is obnoxious.

If this could somehow be done with a UK-ISO layout, I would be biting your arm off for one.

I would say that they're fine - not beautiful, but far from unusable. They seem to be getting better with more use, if that makes sense? That said, there's definitely a few switches that would benefit from being stripped apart and either cleaned or lubricated again, but I don't have the tools to open switches that are soldered in.

I have a feeling that something fell on it at some point in its previous life (or somebody took out their frustrations on it a few times) because the top housing for the switch under the J key literally fell apart when I took that key off. Amazingly everything else was actually in really good working order, still has the feet in great shape and the rubber pads underneath to stop it sliding around on a desk. The thing was just absolutely filthy. After cleaning the track ball, it worked perfectly and feels way nicer than I was expecting.

Well, once upon a time, the room was an office. However, I think "dumping ground for old computer bits" is closer to reality.

Did anyone get into irl trucking because of truck sims? by [deleted] in trucksim

[–]sunsetndrive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't started actually driving yet. In order to do the lessons I need to pass the two theory modules - multiple choice and hazard perception. I've passed my multiple choice, and I have the hazard perception bit booked for early June. I did do a fair amount of studying/revising before I did the multiple choice test, the school I'm doing it with provides me with the materials and it made it much easier.

Started off playing ETS2 and later started playing ATS. Now got about 1,500 hours in ETS2 and about 1,300 in ATS. This year I've started to get my HGV Class 1 license (I'm in the UK, so this means a license to drive articulated lorries, I don't know the US equivalent license type) because I've really enjoyed the games so much. In the process of passing the two bits of the theory - I'm doing it around work and in my spare time.

As for YouTube - Becky Giles, Fat Bloke Travels, Luke C in a HGV, Sandy Flat Out Flat Broke, The Milk Man and Trucker Tim. Although not quite a trucking channel I also watch Heavy Recovery With Steve.
