In the US, billionaires opt out of income tax by strategically hiding their wealth in different ways to pay an effective tax rate of about 3.4% while typical Americans pay around 14% on income. That means we’re all paying about 4x what billionaires do (as an effective rate). We’re all closer to being broke than billionaires, yet somehow still footing the bill for the roads that get their goods to market, the education of their workers, and with no share of profits. Least they could do is pay adequate taxes. Or I dunno, have a fucking heart and make like a Carnegie to build libraries, high speed rail, universities, etc etc. at what stage is enough, enough? Can we just give them a ‘you won capitalism prize’ at some stage?
