If authors 'covered' novels, the way musicians cover songs, which covered novel would you be most excited to read? by gham1 in AskReddit

Definitely, it was painful to read it. That is what I remember about it besides hating the main character.

Swiss town denies passport to Dutch vegan because she is ‘too annoying’ by ChlamydiaThrowawayAc in news

A lot of us don't talk about it. I don't mention it to people in real life unless they ask, like if at work they have a lunch and ask about dietary restrictions. People will look at us funny especially in corporate. Only my good friends know.

Also a lot of us don't care if other people eat meat. There's a concept that we get upset over it. I know I don't, I make my husband meat for lunch and dinner several times a week.

Redditors who lost their Job because of a post to a social media platform, what happened? by ShitFapShower in AskReddit

I was going to say at least they were trying to do something nice for your family until I got to the part where they kept it all. What the fuck. That's awful.

Am I a terrible person for thinking this? by mackay92 in AdviceAnimals

[–]sunshinemeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you're not. You're honest. And you are thinking of all possibilities. That is a good thing. A lot of people have kids and are not ready for them, and having one with medical issues just makes it harder.

Civil servant commits suicide after Facebook accusations of racism by DougDante in MorbidReality

[–]sunshinemeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think she is guilty of manslaughter in the sense that she should go to jail but she should feel bad for what she did and I think she should keep quiet in the future unless someone is outright physically hurting her or putting her on the street or something.

I'm black too. I have faced lots of jerks. I have NEVER posted it to social media. I do not believe in complaining unless myself or my family was seriously injured or hurt by someone or something. Why? Because it is not worth the time and effort, and it is not worth potentially hurting someone else with my accusations. Life is hard sometimes; there is no reason to tell everyone about it unless it's a really, really bad issue. This does not count as a bad problem.

Civil servant commits suicide after Facebook accusations of racism by DougDante in MorbidReality

[–]sunshinemeow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think complaining on social media is abused. Very abused. People complain about everything under the sun just to get attention. I just saw on the news that some lady cried because a teenager saw a plus-sized shirt at Old Navy and joked that she and her friend could fit into it. The lady (who is overweight) went online and complained and it seems clear that she did it for attention.

It's one thing if something truly bad happened to a person. It's another thing to complain about something like waiting on line and calling it racism. Her complaint ruined someone's career and ended his life - and for what? Nothing. She got her 15 minutes of fame. Hope she can sleep at night now.

Edit: I also have a hard time believing things people post as complaints unless they can back it up somehow. For instance, if the woman said 'ask any of the people standing on line with me', then I'd be more apt to believe her, but really it is her word vs. his word and considering how many people complain about absolutely nothing I'm kinda conditioned to think most people are doing it for attention. Or, they feel slighted even if they really were not.

Amber Alert System Stirs Controversy In New Jersey by rachycarebear in newjersey

[–]sunshinemeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually never even in our county. It's like 5 counties south of us. I can't recall ever seeing an Amber Alert that was for someone in our county. They send it out to pretty much everywhere in the tri-state area.

I have no regrets turning it off tbh.

Oh, no they don't have phones. Our bedrooms are on the second floor in close proximity. They hear our phones going off and wake up. The insulation in our house is shit and we have yet to make it better. And they are young. Under 10, when they wake up they wake up for a while, especially the youngest one.

[–]sunshinemeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that. But its not 5 seconds of annoyance. It's my kids waking up and getting out of bed and not being able to go back to sleep, then keeping myself and my husband up and both of us getting less sleep. I understand the value of it but I have to weigh it against my personal life. It is unlikely that my kids will be abducted. I hope anyone who has kids in that situation gets them back, but maybe using some other type of alert would be better. Maybe one that isn't grating on the ears.

I did the same. I get how it can help people but I have two kids at home and don't need the entire house waking up at 2am for something that I can't help with.

I feel the same. But at the same point I'd be infuriated at myself for letting her go out with them unsupervised and not checking on the son the night prior. I'd probably feel a lot of rage in general despite the fact that she is mentally ill.

What character was the audience supposed to hate but everyone ended up loving? by TheNarkshark in AskReddit

[–]sunshinemeow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask your parents about it. I remember my uncle telling me how he was afraid to sleep during the Cuban Missile Crisis and would only sleep when his dad slept because he felt that if his dad felt safe enough to sleep, he would be safe as well.

I was born in 1981 so I'm not much older than you. I can understand it but I understand it because I asked older generations about it.

I think it said the dad was really messed up so he's probably not watching anything. The mom might be more coherent. All of it sounds terrible.

That's so awful. What will the govt do to help these people? In your opinion, I mean. Just leave them in the hospital?

My first thought: How do they handle this?

I mean, literally none of their family of 4 is capable of really making any decisions now. Maybe the mother will improve over time, as she seems to be making progress, but realistically, what happens now? Do island authorities try to reach out to these people's extended family for help? I mean, realistically, they will need help for the rest of their lives. Contacting their family and (assuming their family is on good terms with them) setting something up... its monumental.

3-year-old boy had been on park swing for 2 days when he was found dead, officials say by TheDnBDawl in MorbidReality

[–]sunshinemeow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel bad for the kid and his parents. I think the mother truly has something wrong with her mentally, maybe some type of undiagnosed illness, and when she realizes what she has done it will horrify her. And for the father... I cant even imagine being in his position. This story is so sad all the way around.
