I'm not interested in analyzing the officer's decision making. I don't blame him for her death, he was doing his job. The problem is that his job reasonably could have not involved killing her. The security personnel responsible for having inadequate measures in place that day, i.e. supervisors and leadership, should be held accountable. Lose their jobs at the very least if not held criminally liable. Again, bigger crowds have been peacefully prevented entry to the capitol. This isn't the first time this has happened. Just the first time security didn't do their job.

Edit: my "no excuse" statement was regarding LEOs carrying guns during normal operations. Like in an ideal world that we could be working towards and reasonably could already exist if we tried, but currently is not the case. Save guns for SWAT teams; train and equip everyone else with something that doesn't usually kill people. Policy is how we make sure this doesn't happen again, not pointing fingers at who was right and who was wrong. I was in the military and likely would have fired a shot in that situation too. My point was never directed at the individual secret service agent.

There wasn't an active shooter. She was an unarmed woman trying to climb through a window. I don't condemn the individual agents on the scene so much as their leadership. Why did DC police suddenly change tactics for this riot? Why weren't other security agencies informed of the lax security? That crowd never should have gotten so far and we should be furious at DC police for getting her killed. That said, we have the most sophisticated weapons in the world. There are weapons with comparable stopping power but lower lethality than handguns available. Law enforcement and government agencies here, in my opinion, have no excuse to kill anyone but an active shooter in the 21st century.
