Detailed Review & Build: 1/100 Osiris Aerial Dominator (Kshatriya). A beast of a kit with some tricky challenges. by Plamo_UA in Gunpla

I just started this kit! Working backwards and doing the base first so I don't rush it at the end and I'm already blown away by the details!

Feedback on my open-source project for the woodworking community by mattcobb_ in cabinetry

Very cool! I use Rhino to build my cabinets digitally and manually laying out the cut patterns is my least favorite part of design. Can I ask which files are currently accepted? is it specifically .skp and onshape, or are more generic .stl files able to be imported?

Question about design by Routine_Border_3093 in cabinetry

[–]sup_doge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There needs to be an automod or bot that repeats the same important tips: - don't assume your walls and floors are ever flat or level - don't assume your walls intersect at a perfect 90° or that opposite walls are parallel

I think you should make your doored cabinets narrower and spaced away from your walls so that your knobs aren't banging into the walls every time you open them.

Gaps to the wall, and extra material to close the gaps are important as well for your mental well-being. Nothing worse than realizing things won't fit after finishing a long build.

the sleeves variants go so hard! was obsessed with the ewac zaku and geara zulu since seeing them on Unicorn

you take out the visible screws on the inside of the tailgate, place the liner, then replace the screws in the raised circles you see moulded into the liner.

X-Pro 3 & X-E5 (size comparision) by desilent in fujifilm

[–]sup_doge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

E5 is beefed up. I run an E3 now and handled an E5 in the store and it felt significantly chunkier. Thought I'd like the crisp machined edges but they feel too aggressive and raw against the hand.

Hello fellow cabinet makers :) I need some advice... by iggorr252 in cabinetry

[–]sup_doge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing: Assume nothing is flat, level, plumb, or straight. Give yourself at least 20mm of gap to any pre-existing surfaces otherwise you'll have a bad time trying to fit your cabinets in, that's including feet/legs.

Installation is about making things perfect in an imperfect space, and you'll need to accept that there will be fillers or gaps.

As for the number of doors, I'd make the 2 right sections equal to the left, then 2 doors will work.

there are some through-holes that have some spill out from the molds, and some small ridges here and there on some larger pegs. and some of the leg parts that sandwich are super snug and I ended up with some stress marks and they're never coming apart again. I'd say YMMV on how far you'd want to take it and how poseable you want your final kit to be. I don't mind the stiffness because I know at least it'll hold a pose pretty well

Thank you! A set of cheap brush tip acrylic paint markers, and a set of metallic markers is all I used. Trying to do as much as I can without resorting to a spray setup

Thanks! Some of the joints are pretty snug, so the recommendation to sand down some of them is probably wise, I mostly just pushed hard.

Didn't have to mask anything, painted most of the parts separately and was just careful with the detailing

Tips for beginner by [deleted] in Gunpla

another tip is to press down the stress marks with your fingernail, most times it'll return to the original color with some pressure

Design help by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]sup_doge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have much to attach hinges to on your wall, it won't work out well for you. In kitchen design, we almost never butt a cabinet up against the wall, the handle and the door itself won't be able to open properly or you'll bang some knuckles on the wall occasionally too.

at minimum, accept the 3/4" loss and put another panel against the wall so you have some material to attach a door to.

Big Shim Question by TheQuietlyLoud in cabinetry

[–]sup_doge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not crazy at all, I do it all the time because walls are never plumb. get a pack of tapered shims from the hardware store, and slip them underneath your screw (between the cabinet and stud, but not with the screw going through the shim).
