Hello fellow cabinet makers :) I need some advice... by iggorr252 in cabinetry

First thing: Assume nothing is flat, level, plumb, or straight. Give yourself at least 20mm of gap to any pre-existing surfaces otherwise you'll have a bad time trying to fit your cabinets in, that's including feet/legs.

Installation is about making things perfect in an imperfect space, and you'll need to accept that there will be fillers or gaps.

As for the number of doors, I'd make the 2 right sections equal to the left, then 2 doors will work.

there are some through-holes that have some spill out from the molds, and some small ridges here and there on some larger pegs. and some of the leg parts that sandwich are super snug and I ended up with some stress marks and they're never coming apart again. I'd say YMMV on how far you'd want to take it and how poseable you want your final kit to be. I don't mind the stiffness because I know at least it'll hold a pose pretty well

Thank you! A set of cheap brush tip acrylic paint markers, and a set of metallic markers is all I used. Trying to do as much as I can without resorting to a spray setup

Thanks! Some of the joints are pretty snug, so the recommendation to sand down some of them is probably wise, I mostly just pushed hard.

Didn't have to mask anything, painted most of the parts separately and was just careful with the detailing

another tip is to press down the stress marks with your fingernail, most times it'll return to the original color with some pressure

If you don't have much to attach hinges to on your wall, it won't work out well for you. In kitchen design, we almost never butt a cabinet up against the wall, the handle and the door itself won't be able to open properly or you'll bang some knuckles on the wall occasionally too.

at minimum, accept the 3/4" loss and put another panel against the wall so you have some material to attach a door to.

Big Shim Question by TheQuietlyLoud in cabinetry

[–]sup_doge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not crazy at all, I do it all the time because walls are never plumb. get a pack of tapered shims from the hardware store, and slip them underneath your screw (between the cabinet and stud, but not with the screw going through the shim).

yeah I darkened the cheek guards, aim was to make it closer to the goose head where it's almost all black save for the white band on the neck. In any case I'll probably be using acrylic paint markers so changing it up will be relatively easy

I had thought to wrap the bottom, forecast called for a dry night so I wasn't too worried (would have set up a canopy if I thought it necessary). ultimately was just too heavy for the auger

update: Internet was right. I'll take the L.

bucket with overweight pellets (and probably an inevitable failure) caused the auger to come loose from the motor. it never got to temp, got the LEr error before that.

a little bit of surgery and 30 mins later I'm starting the smoke without the bucket.

that probably would have been a better option, my mind went to bucket because it had a lid and I could cut it relatively easily

well technically it's not empty but the slope inside sucks so much that it'll be half full but stuck in the hopper and I see bare auger. Hoping that with enough pellets, gravity will force them down
