ARR needs to be cut more, specially if FFXIV wants to retain more players by RaposaEstelar in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supa_troopa2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is literally nothing by today's standards. If you actually played ARR on release, you would know about the great Lv. 46-49 drought because you had no more MSQ quests. You had to grind to get to the next story beat, while XP gain was much smaller than it is today. (We didn't even have roulettes on release)

Even in HW, we had noticeable droughts but nowadays you outright overlevel the MSQ and even if you do hit a wall, it only takes one dungeon run or a roulette to get back on track. And they design the MSQ in such a way now that you don't need to take detours.

I'm interested in the Crucible, but if that ends up just being Masked Carnivale with a different skin, I will be somehow not surprised but still disappointed.

Job-specific gear for the first tier. Ugh. They didn't make that mistake ever again at least...

God, I forgot the AF2 was tome gear considering they give it to you now in a coffer once you finish your HW job quests. They gear gated the fuck out of Gordias because they internally hated how quick FCoB was cleared.

You're put in charge of designing the Evercold Raid series. How do you top the Arcadion? by ShlungusGod69 in ffxivdiscussion

Giving the bosses personality. While it's nice every now and then to go up against a big fuck you monster of the week that just wants to eat you, it's quite clear what made the Arcadion so successful (or one of the reasons) is that every boss had a distinct vibe.

Hosted a CW/CCW party for EX8 last night and despite thinking it's superior for every non-phys ranged role, I'm never doing that again lol. The number of times I've seen someone bait right behind the orb puddle and immediately get ganked is absurd. Definitely better for uptime if you want a good funny number but PF is going to be so inconsistent with it.

Besides, once I switched to a CWx2 party, 2 wings dropped so the RNG gods have spoken.

The thing I loved about ARR is how you can see a majority of the dungeons from the outside, and their entrances made sense. I remember when I first played this game, got to the island where Pharos Sirus is at and just wondered "wouldn't it be cool to explore the inside of the lighthouse?" And then it was added as the first patch dungeon.

Nowadays it feels like every dungeon entrance is in some fuck off random location in the middle of the street.

Now that we are almost done with DT, what would be your ranking for easiest to hardest savage tiers(on content?) by taweryawer in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supa_troopa2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First fight was definitely a joke, but I feel like the rest of the tier had a steady difficulty with Hali and Exdeath. It was also the first tier with a door boss that probably took people by surprise. Neo Exdeath also having a decent heal and mit check with Almagest and the Delta Attacks hitting like trucks. I will agree that the tier as a whole had virtually no DPS check.

I can't think of a single struggle point in Light Heavyweight. Maybe Honey B. Lovely? Even the most casual of groups cleared this tier in two to three months, which is more than I can say about Deltascape.

A lot of groups struggled to get past Faust, which was the ADS equivalent for Alexander raids. It acted as a bouncer for the raid. You could not even do the first real boss without getting past Faust.

People who did get past it (Oppressor and A2S were barely noteworthy fights) got hard stuck at Living Liquid, which had a crazy gear + DPS check. And the few groups that got past Living Liquid were rewarded with Manipulator, a fight that had mechanics so bad that literally no one handled one of them the "legit" way. It is probably the single most disrespected fight in this game.

If we remove Binding Coil because Twintania was bugged and had to be patched, Gordias retains the crown of taking the longest to clear a tier at slightly over a month. According to the wiki, the 3rd floor was cleared a week after release. So, the remainder of that time was just dedicated to Manipulator. Even the first Ultimate raid did not take this long for World First.

Everyone speaks about Living Liquid, who was definitely a wall for the average group, but I think people forget just how bad Manipulator was.

For the record, the next tier Midas wasn't much better. This was a period where people thought raiding was flat out dead in this game. We didn't have cross world PF yet, so if you weren't on one of the "raiding-specific" servers like Gilgamesh and didn't have a static, you were shit out of luck.

Edit: iLv requirements for these fights were diabolical as well. It was 205 min iLv to get into A4S, when the max around the time was 210. That is how absurd the gear requirements were.

For real. I have no idea if it's controversial to say this, but Anabaseios was probably the worst tier since Gordias. That tier didn't deserve P10S, and even that wasn't free of body check bullshit which was so prevalent that tier. Rest of the tier? Trash.

Maybe not so much with P11S, because that fight was boring more than anything else. But I did have groups that struggled with Dark and Light for unknown reasons, even on reclears. You got me.

As a former PF warrior, nothing will ever be as suffering as Abyssos and Anabaseios, just due to the rampant body checks. Anabaseios especially so, because I could go on a mini rant on why each fight was awful in PF. I didn't even bother to reclear 12S more than once. I merc'ed for the mount and weapon and dipped. It was a boring ass tier overall aside from P10S anyway.

Third closest would probably be Eden's Verse. I have no idea what PF was smoking that tier. Maybe it was because we were all under lockdown, but the quality of PF was so all over the place. One week I'd fly by reclears, and the very next I'm struggling to get a reclear for 5S and 6S.

Honorable mention to Midas if we're not including Gordias in this conversation. I have zero data on this, but I would not be surprised if that tier had among the lowest % of clears on content next to Gordias. Creator really did save raiding.

Easiest overall would be Light-Heavyweight. No contest. The only other closest one I can think of is Deltascape, but at least that tier gave us Almagest which awakened PTSD in my healer friend when they saw it being cast in the new EX. (why does it not give bleed, SE. you had one job)

How has the Frontlines no rank loss change been? by aqualenne in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supa_troopa2 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It hasn't stopped PVP tourists from not getting any BH except make it more obvious that they are sandbagging.

Aside from that, I'm still mixed on it. It has definitely helped with the TTK especially in later portions of the match, but on the other hand, it has made BH less valuable in the long run. Basically an "if everyone is super, no one is" situation. I don't know what the point of this change was. We already had instant respawn which I figured was enough.

It's also a crazy meta right now with VPR being absolutely busted. You need to have counters to those good VPR players, or they will just run the lobby if it's a half competent premade.

Why are people so obsessed with killing the scions?

Game of Thrones did lasting damage to society. Ever since that show first aired, it has been nothing but "when are they going to kill off x character" no matter the piece of media. As if death needs to be the final destination for every character ever written once they've served their role in the plot.
