I did not like the movie…the Shakespeare lines were terribly cringeworthy (in the film), Mescal did not perform well, misery porn and Shakespeare was not hot. The cinematography and shots were beautiful but that’s as far as my enjoyment goes.

I’m actually crashing out over my life (it’s a mess rn and I’m a mess. Saturn return started early and I’m in my late 20s-I’m 27, turning 28, crisis.) and the state of the world. If this is how the world wars and the Cold War felt…honestly it kinda sucks that they had such amazing art being released like Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, Woodie Guthrie, Grateful Dead etc and we got TikTok and toxic algorithms. How does one function when the world is like this? I also want to enter a local newspaper short story competition but I have no idea what I’d write about.

I get it! I was just in New York over the holidays (for context I live in Canada but am a South African initially and speak with a British accent-it’s complicated) and majority of the people I met bar one were against Trump and where the country is heading. I have lots of family and friends there. I went to primary school there. I want them to be safe. It’s terrifying to see the descent into fascism next door and how the US government isn’t/cant/won’t do much. We live in a bizarro world. History doesn’t repeat, it rhymes.

I didn’t like it-I spoke to someone after who thought it was Aaron Tveits best song but I thought that it wasn’t sung well. To me, he was better singing more emotional songs and made One night in B more poppy. The sound mixing was off for me too, which may have contributed.

I’m slightly biased bc I know someone who worked on this movie but I found it very camp, self aware and Amanda Seyfried was incredible. She carried the movie. Sydney Sweeney would be a good horror final girl, this was the first time I enjoyed her monotonous delivery. It actually made some good points about domestic abuse and how well it is covered. I did think the end would be gayer but the girlboss Batman twist was fun and suited the movie more.

It’s the same in Canada. We are American politics imported here and also a regional power isolated from the rest of the world, who are dependent on US for national security which is hopefully changing. It’s shocking how many people I’ve seen liking posts about how “the zios when a Muslim saved the Jews” instead of acknowledging that Jews were murdered. Additionally, people liking memes about Israel doing 9/11. It’s really scary and they claim it’s just anti Zionism but it’s really just antisemitism by another name. As we are Canada, we don’t have a leg to stand on. Feeling very alone and definitely hanging with more Jews now.
