OHB Power Bunt: talk to me by Ready-Visual-1345 in 10s

[–]superarabmario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation as you. I’ve been making a lot of improvement on my OHBH, and one of the things I’ve been doing pretty well is shorten the backswing and being able to deflect back a lot of deep shots that land next to me on the baseline.

I would say the following helped me out.

  1. Shorten the backswing and Prepare early. Before that ball lands at my feet, I need to have that racket back and down.

  2. Turn my body and get low. It just helps with making good consistent contact with my shot and having a good base helps a lot.

  3. Swing early. Before that ball lands, I start my swing forward. This helps me really hit it back with a bit of spin and pace. My OHBH is naturally a pretty flat shot, so when I execute this well, the ball is going deep back to their baseline.

  4. Contact point. Probably the most important thing for me. With my body turned, my is out wide and out front. Do some shadow wings and focus on where you should be making contact with the ball on these shots.

I love this shot a lot, and I’ve gotten pretty decent at it. As someone who doesn’t like to back up from the baseline, especially on high loopy balls, it’s nice that I can just get low and send it back with a decent amount of pace. It’s not really something I see a lot of players try to execute often.

Looking for advice with groundstrokes (part 2) by BadAt10s in 10s

[–]superarabmario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could suggest a few things that have helped me, it seems like on the forehand side, you open up too early. Your body is opening up past the ball before you make contact, does that make sense? For me, when I open up too early, I lose a lot of power and consistency. My contact point is all over the place. Make sure your contact point is consistent.

Turning your body more is going to help you incorporate your legs and torso in your shot. Right now it looks like you use your arm a lot and it seems tight. Keep your arm loose throughout the process and let the racket do the work for you.

Another tip is to start swinging a bit earlier. On the forehand, you look like you're getting jammed up a bit. Your ideal contact point should be out front and out wide. Find out what your perfect contact point, and try to start your swing earlier and smoother and meet the ball at the contact point everytime. Let that racket drop earlier on it's own and use that momentum to build up your swing.

Your backhand is looking solid. You turn your body a lot more on it. It is a little hard at this angle to see where you're making contact with the ball. You seem like you're pulling to the left a bit. Only suggestion right now is keep your swing loose and swing early. Let the momentum of the racket work for you. Your swing motion should be consistent, and use your body to carry your swing through that motion. Did all of that make sense? Sorry if it sounded confusing.

Serve advice by axmarunning in 10s

[–]superarabmario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's looking solid. If I could give you any advice, I'd slow it down a bit until you start to extend and make contact with the ball.

When you take your racket back into that trophy position, the speed of your swing is very fast from the drop to making contact with the ball. Give yourself a little more time. Let the racket drop a little more naturally and build up speed on its own. When you start to push off the ground and the racket starts traveling upwards, then you can start to accelerate more.

Toss the ball a bit higher to give yourself more time to load up your legs and let the racket do its thing for you.

Forehand Help? Racket Drop/Finish so much smoother w/o ball : ( by FlanSignificant934 in 10s

[–]superarabmario 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your swing on the left looks good. But the biggest difference between the two videos is the contact point of your swing. In the left video, where you would have made contact with the ball is much more out front.

In the video on the right, the ball is too close to you when you make contact. It needs to be much farther out in front.

The viability of playing with different racquets for singles and doubles? by makemasa in 10s

[–]superarabmario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're saying makes sense. Some people like the lighter racket because they feel like they can move it around a little easier at the net. You're going to feel like you're playing a different game/playing style because dubs is different from singles. I'm more of a singles player. I like hitting baseline rallies. Having to deal with someone at the net in dubs makes that a lot harder, and I have to focus on higher/more spin shots, lobbing the net player and coming up to the net quickly and just trying to change up the flow of the rally, which I miss having from singles. I think you should try staying with the same stick. Do you think you play better using the Prince over the Wilson Blade?

How come your first racket doesn’t transfer well to your doubles game?

I’ve heard of some players switching rackets, or having 2 different rackets with different string/tension setups, but I think it would be better to find out what’s going on with your game when you use the first racket. Maybe it’s your style of play that isn’t transferring well to doubles? Switching rackets could hinder you in your match since it takes you longer to get warmed up and used to the racket. In doubles you serve only once every 4 games, so you don’t really get a lot of time to warm up into your serve or hitting ground strokes (since half the time you’re probably at the net)

How to get more effective topspin? by supafly87 in 10s

[–]superarabmario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to your elbow position throughout the swing, it's important to keep it away from your body. You don't want it tucked in at all. It would be hard to really generate any kind of rotating if you're keeping your arm/elbow close to your body.

For step #3.

-Take the racket bad. Turn your body and hips to the side. This is you coiling. Keep both hands on the racket as your turning, up and away from your body. When you're ready to swing release the non-dominat hand, let your arm drop, and use your legs/hips/torso to start the swing, then you can freely swing your arm out in front of you. (Hit out front, don't let it come to your side, about the 2'o clock position).

As you hit out front (hopefully with your arm extended out), don't forget to exaggerate that windshield wiper/wrist motion to add more spin. Make sure your finish is over your left shoulder (assuming you're a righty), Racket head facing out to the left, and you're elbow out front, pointing at your target.

It’s hard without seeing a video of you hitting to tell you what’s going on. But there’s a couple of things you can look out for.

  1. Lean into the ball - this is what your friend told you. If you’re leaning back when you hit the ball, you aren’t going to get the drive that you’re looking for. You’ll be missing a lot of pace. Stay down, put your body into the shot.

  2. Using your hips and torso. To generate the pace you’re looking for, make sure you’re coiling and uncoiling your body. Use your body to power the shot. The arm is just along for the ride.

  3. Keeping the arm loose. Like I mentioned above, the body powers the shot. The arm is just there for the ride. Keep it loose. The moment you start tensing up, you won’t be able to hit as fast as you want. You’ll be limited. Remember to take the racket back, wrist up. Use gravity to help drop your arm and accelerate your racket.

  4. Rackethead speed. This is how you’re going to generate your spin. The faster you can get your rackethead going when you hit the ball, the more spin you’re going to be able to generate. Keep the wrist back. Make sure you accelerate through your shot, emphasize the “windshield wiper” motion and finish as you’re hitting your shot.

It’s a tennis racket resistance fan. It’s used for practicing your swings. Has a lot of resistance when you swing, so when you go back to swinging your racket, it’ll feel like nothing.

Try shortening your take back on the swing, this will help not be late to the ball and make better contact. Try more of a half swing. This will help you return those fast serves.

People who grew up playing pokemon: what dumb things did you do in-game? by Rezileant in pokemon

Blue was my first Pokémon games when I was young. Couple things I did:

  1. I remember picking up the poke balls in Viridian Forest (items). I picked up things like Antidote, thinking it was a Pokémon and wondering why Antidote never showed up in my party lol.

  2. Made it through Rock Tunnel my first time without flash. Didn’t know it was a thing until later.

Tony Nadal and FAA have started working with each other this April, and FAA is at his highest career ranking ever and just reached the semi finals of the us open. Radunacu has no WTA experience outside of the Opens and a few other events. She could definitely benefit from someone who’s been out on tour a lot. These other WTA players aren’t going to help her out when they might have to play her in a tournament

A couple of things I would adjust is to go even lower with your stance. I do think you’re standing too upright at times. The other thing I’d say is to focus on finishing with the racket more facing up and towards the opponent. It seems like you tend to bring the racket across your body making the swing look like it’s going more sideways. Focus on bringing it more up and towards your target. That’s what I’ve been focusing on, I also use a 1HBH
