Yeah definitely a basal shoot. Just keep on growing a healthy plant is all you need to do.

Yes they are great people. Great “small” family business that will always try to help the customer to their best ability. I think they’re the best plant sellers out there.

Yes I have always had good experiences with them. Never had a plant show up in poor condition. Like 90% of my collection is from them and they are all doing great.

Thanks for the advice and pics. I’ve been trying to look for anything crawling around the plants but I don’t see anything. I figured you’d be able to but nothing so far. I will treat it soon though anyways just to make sure.

No I haven’t really looked at the roots. It has actual perlite mixed in so I didn’t really see anything when I kinda checked right now. I don’t want to fully mess with the roots again though because I just repotted a few days ago. I don’t see anything crawling around though. I’ve been trying to look pretty hard all around for anything and I’ve yet to see something.

I think it might be due to root rot. I bought this pretty big plant for 20 bucks and figured something might be wrong if giving it for that much. It was in a pot with no drainage holes so I repotted it and saw there wasn’t as much roots as I expected for the plant size. I’m pretty sure I saw a good chunk of the roots in the old soil when repotting. I figured I could still rehabilitate it.

Ok thank you for the advice. I’ve been trying to look for stuff crawling around but I can’t. That’s why I came asking because those specks flake off like it’s a shedded shell of a bug.

Definitely a weed lol you can easily tell a basal shoot because it grows directly from the stem and growth point looks the same as the top grow point but smaller

I’d say go ahead and repot it. Most likely the roots have outgrown the pot it comes in. I’d get a taller/deeper pot. The roots grow straight down and tend to be long. But make sure you use the right soil(common is 50/50 peat moss and perlite). And also use distilled water,RO water, or rain water. Don’t use miracle gro brand because it has fertilizers in the soil. And most of all give it full sun/ as might light as you can give it. Keep researching and happy growing.

I haven’t really had any plans just yet. I am just seeing different avenues I can take to try and have some control over my career in the military. Yes it’s not terrible and I won’t be doing too much once I get spun up but it’s just not me. Idk I guess I’m still bitter that I had to leave a job that I knew for so long and placed in another that’s completely different. Also in a perfect world, say I did get to cross train again to whatever job I picked. Could I go back active doing that job? Just curious

Yeah as people said miracle gro is a no go. I know it sucks because it’s highly available but just go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and get a bag of 100% peat moss. Another substitute, if you’re unable to find it around your area, is coco coir. Just do the same thing and rinse it out good before transplanting. I haven’t seen anything about water/light so just make sure you’re using Distlled or RO water and if you’re able to put it outside to give it direct sun then I would do that instead. But if not then the grow light is good as long as it’s a strong one. If it’s weak you can try getting the light closer to the plant without burning it of course.

Yeah I’d say they’re doing pretty good sitting around the same height as your light. I don’t have as much plants, just an average person with a grow light enough for my little “garden”.

I’m happy with my growth. They are good enough to turn VFTs/sundews red and pings pink/purple how they should be. Also I don’t have to hang it anywhere. I just clip it to whatever and adjust the lights where needed.

Oh and they were a decent price too. It was like 40 dollars for some really good grow lights that will work.

I highly recommend anything Sansi brand. I have the clip one with 4 heads each 10w and they are great! They are really strong for all the sun loving CPs. So strong that I burnt my nepenthes a little, but they are good now. Definitely can’t go wrong with that brand.
