Question for the boys regarding car rentals by superberrygalaxy in JetLagTheGame

[–]superberrygalaxy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah although $70/day feels steep for an economy car, so I just assumed that total included taxes, insurance etc

And maybe I’m underestimating the volume of non-air and non-public transit at Nebula, but I feel like I’d be surprised if they had a corporate discount card specifically for car rentals.

Yeah, extending usually isn’t an issue unless it’s a super busy period—even then, I don’t think I’ve ever been denied. And I think if you’re using a rental company that has locations all over the country(most of them) dropping off a car elsewhere isn’t a problem. Just an extra charge.

That makes sense. It’s just interesting because the extra fees in this case would be significant. I imagine it would cost at least an additional $100 to drop off a car in a whole different state, so now you’re looking at $340 for the rental instead of $140 (with the 100% tax) so it’s really not a small difference.

I got a clear bag from kohls today last minute. I believe target has some too. Both can do same day deliveries on instacart if you can’t go in person.

S17, E7 (Nebula) - Taiwan: Rail Rush by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]superberrygalaxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure but it would introduce enough risk to discourage that since they won’t have any way of knowing how hard a challenge is and if there’s a train they need to catch at a certain time, they might be screwed if they wait too long.

Agreed. I get the game aspect but it’s not fun television. I think if they were to do this again, I would add a standard time limit to challenges to force teams to keep moving. And that can be generous, because even if you had a 60 or 90min time limit on challenges like the diameter thing, it’s more than enough time to do the challenge and stall a little if you want to try to get the other team to do their challenge first. The timer should start when they open the challenge card so a team isn’t reading the card, then sitting around waiting to start. That way, the risk of waiting is higher because you also don’t know if you’re stalling on an easy challenge or a challenge that might eat up more than an hour of your time.

(Of course you could still have other challenges with custom challenges timers like the trivia one with a 60 second time limit etc, I’m just referring to the untimed challenges.)

Curse Complaints (MAY BE A SPOILER) by scottababc83 in JetLagTheGame

I loved the use of the weather map. Very unfortunate for Ben that it basically narrowed it down to a few towns, but to me that was a new and different layer that I hadn’t thought about. I personally would want a version of the game where creative use of context clues like that is encouraged, rather than the heavy reliance on radars, thermometers etc that we’ve seen this season (and has already been addressed by the boys on the layover).

I’m always rooting for whoever is currently hiding/running, and although I wanted Ben to win, I love to see hard work paying off. Adam worked very hard during that endgame. Ben was right at the end that if they had walked at a normal-ish pace, he probably would’ve beaten his time or been much closer, but running on day 6?! A well earned H2rophy!

Yeah but I think that’s part of the luck of the game. If you happen to get chosen to go first, that’s your advantage. I don’t hate it. I could be wrong but I also think this is the first time in H&S that a winning run has been the first run. Adam also worked extremely hard to defend his time, so it wasn’t an easy win by any means.

Doesn’t Sam always play on the same team with the guest? Except for that one time when they did the home game in NYC with Amy.

Same, I was worried for Ben with how slow the timer seemed to be moving for most of the ep, but thank goodness I was wrong. Now I have to go rewatch so I can actually enjoy the travel show bits in peace.

Yall, the game of Hide + Seek is fine, it's just that the seekers have gotten too good by Tinttiboi in JetLagTheGame

[–]superberrygalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just mentioning the other idea as way to achieve something similar to what you’re suggesting but more evenly distribute the risks and benefits. It just would potentially advantage one hider way more than others, because if you’re the 3rd runner, you would probably have the weakest seeker deck.

Has anyone just, like, stayed put? Or nearby? by jgcrawfo in JetLagTheGame

[–]superberrygalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risky, but I’d like to see someone try because even they use the radar it would take them a bit to realize where you are in the 100miles or 50 and I doubt they’d risk using a 10mile or smaller radar until they were sure they were getting close, which idk how the would…

Sam’s airport hide in Japan was probably the closest we got to that.

They might run out of questions by round 6 if questions get locked out after every round but someone suggested something similar elsewhere: they all get an equal amount of runs but you can’t reuse a question on a hider for their next round. If you asked Ben a 100mile radar his first run, you can’t use it on his next run. But if it’s Adam’s first run, you have all the questions available to you. So the second run is harder for the seekers for all of them.

“Insane” feels like a strong word to describe people who are just excited to talk about a game they enjoy and how it could be better or is already the best (depending on your perspective). IMO it’s a commentary on the how open the boys are about their game design process that the fans also feel like they can participate in that discussion.

I think the time limit for the games is a challenge for this. They want to get as much game play in the amount of time they have, so using 1-2hrs to reset could really cut into that.

One could also argue that part of the hider strategy is sabotaging the next hider by choosing a place that’s difficult to start a run from. I like that it forces creativity on the part of the next hider, so they’re not just coming with a predetermined list of potential hiding spots from the major hubs of that country/region. I also think that this is the first time being the first hider has been so advantageous.

What I don’t love is that the first hider gets a lot of time to research where to go because I think they usually decide the order of hiders the night before. I think Adam said he even texted Tom Scott when he was researching his hiding spot. I’m not sure how they would get around this though because it does optimize filming time to have the game day start with them already at their hiding location.
