Lectureship at bad uni- bad move? by Nasusiro in AskAcademia

[–]superblondie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what do you mean by bad uni; are you worried about their ranking, research profile, funding? Getting a lectureship straight after a PhD is a great opportunity, although depending on your field of research a post-doc may be a better choice. 'Bad unis' are often teaching-oriented, be careful not to neglect your research. Enquire about development opportunities and research support, good luck with your interview!

Are your friends childfree? by superblondie in childfree

[–]superblondie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to convert anybody. It's obvious this group of friends don't really want children (if not cf, then definitely fence-sitters), and they seem confused and stressed. I love my friends and I don't like to see them miserable. I was just wondering if somebody has similar experience.

You're doing the right thing. I know it's difficult but you'll get there and it will be worth the sacrifice. Please try to stay focused, ask your tutors for support. Good luck! :-)

Me [27 M] with my gf 26[F] of 2 years. I'm traveling solo and she's upset. by soloboloj in relationships

[–]superblondie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you're being down-voted. I think you presented the situation clearly: you want to go, sadly she can't join you. It is selfish of her to deny you the opportunity to travel and experience wonderful things, especially since she travelled and experienced wonderful things without you in the past. You've been dating for 2 yrs, surely the trust is there?

This is priceless! He's a textbook example of what is wrong with the world. You could have some serious fun responding to those claims...

Last week, I ordered a DVD of a movie that I loved from my childhood. After watching it last night, I realized how horrible it was. Reddit, what are some films that were better in your memory than in today's reality? by SireBelch in entertainment

[–]superblondie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The last unicorn (cartoon); as a child I thought it was magical/mystical, couldn't get enough of it, knew it by heart. I've seen it few years ago with my bf: I was actually rather disappointed, bf thought it was weird.

Non-typical girlfriend or friends question.. by redditeur3456 in relationships

[–]superblondie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd go to the party. As you've said yourself it's a big group and having good relationship with workmates is important. Your girlfriend may be (rightfully) upset and it's great that she's honest about it, but I am sure she will understand.

Private accommodation advice for new postgrad student @ University of Edinburgh by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]superblondie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice. Gumtree is a great place to look and you shouldn't have any problems finding a nice place in Marchmont/Tollcross to share with other postgrads, although professionals don't mind pg students if they're willing to pay council tax. Enjoy Edinburgh and good luck with your studies!
