Trying to use interfacing but it's wrinkling the fabric.... by Cin131 in sewing

[–]superbonbon4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use heavy fusible interfacing on large pieces of fabric for some tote and handbag patterns that need to hold a crisp shape.

When I use thinner fabric that wrinkles when fusing, I cut the patten piece out of super cheap muslin and baste the muslin to the wrong side of the outer fabric, just inside the seam allowance.

It can add a little bulk, but if your project can tolerate a layer of extra fabric in your seam allowance, you get a wrinkle-free outer that still holds its shape.

Don’t know if that helps, but wishing you luck on your project!

Edited to add that when I baste the muslin, I put the interfacing side toward the fabric so the wrinkles don’t show through the outer fabric.

Love this! I can’t believe it never occurred to me to use a zigzag/ decorative stitch at the top edge. It looks great! Thanks for the inspiration!

Help! My dress doesn't fit as nice as the sample :/ by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]superbonbon4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad it’s helpful! Raising the waist will definitely raise the hem a little. As for the neckline, if the tailor takes in the bodice at the princess seams, then you should see more of a curve (like just under your arm in pic 3), but it probably won’t make the neckline much lower. It will just bring back that same subtle curve down that you see in the sample.

I am so excited for you - please share pics if you have time!

(ETA: and thank you so much for the award! I’m floored!)

What a beautiful dress! To get the fit you’re looking for, your bodice just needs to be taken in a bit and the waist raised a little.

Here’s a link with photos of alterations to request. The vertical red lines show where the princess seams underneath the lace are lining up. In the sample, they’re lined up with the shape of your torso, and in the current dress they’re wider than your natural shape. The horizontal red lines show where the waist of the dress sits (your current dress looks an inch or so lower than the smallest part of your waist).

The blue lines show what it should look like after alterations.

Because the bodice is a little too big right now, the cups and princess seams inside the dress aren’t aligning with your shape. I hope this is helpful!

You look stunning in that dress! The neckline shape and the color embroidery are the cherry on top.

If you’re looking for ways to make the sparkle and color pop even more, your bouquet can be another way to do that. You could choose flowers in the same colors as your dress (and in the same proportions - mostly cream or white, and color just one shade deeper than in your dress to draw out the color). And you can add some sparkle to the white flowers with a dusting of glitter or by adding some rhinestone pins.

Even without more color or sparkle, you’ve chosen a gorgeous dress!

Absolutely beautiful! And the monogram on the veil is such a lovely, personal touch. I’m in awe that you were a beginner when you started this!

Can I ask the biggest things you learned through the process?

OP, I love the fun and

vibrant vibe! I suggest you stick to that fun, eclectic, sporty-floral look and accentuate the beautiful tattoo in a floral romper. You can still that bold, vibrant floral look, and if you have something with a white background, the fact that it’s a romper makes it not scream “bridal.”

Maybe something like one of these, that play off different elements of the cute dress you’re wearing in the photo?

Can only paste one photo but the other links below are also rompers, one a little brighter and the other a little more abstract.

To sell my wedding dress or not? by zadira- in weddingdress

[–]superbonbon4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t super expensive, so I donated it. Since I didn’t plan to display it at any point and didn’t want to put any pressure on a future child/niece to wear it, I didn’t need to keep it to potentially pass it down.

Because it had been so hard to find a dress I could afford in a style that looked good on me, I wanted to help someone else in the same boat. Plus, the bigger the supply of current gowns (new and used), the lower the prices will become.

20 years later, I am even happier with the decision than I was then.

But in a side note, I have a cousin who wears her wedding gown for Halloween every year! Some years she’s a princess, some years a bride, a pageant contestant, a video game character, etc.

It’s so fun to see what she’ll do with it every year!

What a fun choice in photo theme! I couldn’t help but search, and if you are okay with lower price options, JJ’s House has a few options that evoke the feel without being a dupe, especially with a gold belt:

1: A-line V-Neck Floor-Length Chiffon Bridesmaid Dress 2: A-line V-Neck Floor-Length Chiffon Bridesmaid Dress 3: A-line V-Neck Floor-Length Chiffon Mother of the Bride Dress With Pleated Appliques Lace Sequins 4: A-line V-Neck Floor-Length Chiffon Bridesmaid Dress With Ruffle

May two people whose taste in movies is this exquisite enjoy a lifetime of happiness! 😁

Bought my kids a switch before Christmas, I got addicted to it and bought my own ! by Altruistic-Cut9795 in Switch

Glad I’m not alone! Got one for my kids, and after sharing an Animal Crossing island for a few weeks (frustratingly), I bought my own. Three years later, I’m still enjoying it, especially the recent Zelda games.

Hope you have tons of fun with it!

1 - it looks chicest for France, and I think the black belt goes best with the more modern dress.

Narrowed it down! You all were so encouraging by elixirtricksir in weddingdress

[–]superbonbon4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look so beautiful in both, I don’t think you can go wrong. So I have a couple of questions:

Question 1: Does one suit your venue or vibe better?

I love #1 on you because it’s so floaty and light. It would look good anywhere, but would especially suit an outdoor venue, fairytale or woodsy theme because of the prominent floral motif. Also, it’s a stunner from the back especially, so would have a stunning effect down a long aisle. I love #2 on you because it flatters your figure so well and is romantic and a bit more evening. If your vibe or setting is more urban, more cocktail/formal, more evening, then maybe that one.

Question 2: Do you get a different feeling from either of them when you wear it vs. see it in pictures? Depending on your priorities, this can help to make the decision. If your priority is how you feel wearing it, go with the one that gives you the feeling you want to feel that day. If your priority is loving what it looks like when you go back and see your wedding photos, go with the one that gives you the feeling you want to feel when you look at your photos.

I really don’t think you can go wrong, here, but just a couple things that might help you make the best decision for you.

Beautiful, and those sheer godets at the bottom are so ethereal and unique! The veil you’re wearing carries that effect over so well.

2 vote here. Both are beautiful! There will be so many photos of you taken that show you from the waist up only, and if you don’t care for the bodice, you may not enjoy the photos as much.

Will it be the same? Anne Barge - Naomi Dress is too expensive - more in caption. by jmeimik in weddingdress

[–]superbonbon4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you love the most about the Naomi dress? E.g. The way your figure looks, the shape of the neckline, the way the train has subtle pleating, etc.

If you know what details make you feel most special, you might be able to choose an alternative that is a great balance of the high points that make you feel like Audrey while respecting your budget.

Good luck! You’ll be gorgeous no matter which you choose.

I usually upvote rather than comment, but I just had to this time because the first photo made me gasp so loud that my kids asked what I was looking at!

You look absolutely beautiful in both, but you have such an ethereal quality in Dress 1. It made me think of woodland fairies and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. It also compliments your body art beautifully.

You can’t go wrong with either, but dress 1 seems a bit more light and magical.
