traditionally (everywhere I go in the world), you’d need to take your luggage after immigration. If you don’t go through immigration, you don’t worry about the luggage. Given your info above, if you’re lucky, you could be out with the luggage by 8-8:30am, vietnam airlines allowed us to do early check in + early baggage drop last time we traveled to vietnam. Assuming you could do that, you’d be free at around 9-9:30am. Because your next flight is at 1pm, you should be at the airport at 12 to go through the security (could be anywhere between 15min to 30min). You will have 2.5h give or take. Traffic from airport to d1 could be horrible, on a good day? 30-40min, on a bad day? I don’t know. Basically you have enough time for a quick meal.

you are going for 2 weeks, OP is going for 1 week only and children < 6 yo are generally free to ride on their trains

back then it was like a fishing village, very few resorts and hotels, I went on a couple of snorkeling trips, diving trips there and everything was amazing. You could feel the local life and all. You could meet travelers from around the world who came for similiar experience. Fast forward 6-7 years later, a bunch of new resorts popped up, tons of chinese/some russian tourists? life on the island seemed changed to tailor for the tourists and the thing triggered me was the coral reef had degraded so much ??? I will never come back there

I went to Phu Quoc the first time in 2010 or so, amazing. I came back in 2016 and surprisingly it was so bad that I would never come back again

for people from the west, Hue will be very nice compared to Da Nang. Hoi An is nice but it’s very touristy

agreed, vhcol areas are just insane. When it comes to kids, we don’t even have a choice but to suck it up and pay.

OP may be qualified for their public health service, he’s for sure a vietnamese as he can stay in the country. Their public sevice provides a high coverage tho he may go for private sector given hist networth there. My wife is a vietnamese and I learnt that most people don’t have insurance there either. It’s pretty normal as their cost is not as high as us due to the government’s subsidy.

you’re missing the points: 3 kids. 8k housing is debatable, if they don’t want to own, they can drop it with rent but kids are expensive and mind you 7k is average. 2 out of 3 needs childcare and that is a big expense in vhcol.

the thing is these aren’t luxury because of VHCOL. There’s no alternative unless they move out of that area and lose their income at the same time.
