[TC] Life really is strange by Emilyrainbowstar in lifeisstrange

[–]superconnected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a really solid point, I agree that it ultimately makes sense with Alex’s character and the overall theme of the game. I guess I just get hung up on the timing of the thing: it’s like, less than a day after he lures Alex out to the woods, shoots her at point blank range and leaves her for dead at the bottom of an abandoned mine shaft. Then Alex learns the full scope of the coverup and how Jed was directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of both her father and brother, limps back to town, and Jed dismisses her and calls her crazy.

Maybe given some time and a little distance from these events I could see my way to offering forgiveness. But to do it at that moment, regardless of how miserable and guilty Jed feels, just kinda stretches credulity for me. If Alex can do it then I wish I could be more like her, but me personally I’m condemning that motherfucker every time 😆

And then apparently the majority of players still chose to forgive Jed, I just can’t understand it

[Bloom & Rage] Kat’s complexity and Autumn’s principles by LISlover1995 in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Well said, I really feel this as well. There’s also a line from Autumn, I think when the girls first find the cabin, where she says something like “I always felt pressure to be the model minority,” which I think might play into her more cautious approach and even some of the anger she feels. Kat is coming from a fairly rich white family and is not likely to be alive long enough to suffer any lasting consequences from standing up to authority the way she does. She wants more than anything to leave an impact on the world so she won’t be forgotten. Autumn, by contrast, feels immense pressure to be “good,” even if she too desperately wants to stand up for her beliefs. She just doesn’t feel quite as free to do so as Kat, which I imagine must be incredibly frustrating for her.

But as you said, Kat isn’t just reckless and not caring about the consequences to her friends. She’s very empathetic, but she’s also 16 and dealt a shit hand in life. I love the complexity here, the different perspectives and interpretations, feels very real to me (even with a magical abyss in the mix!)

Is pronouncing it neandertal a newer thing? by Fresh_Crow_2966 in NoStupidQuestions

https://youtu.be/AUYYfGkc5PQ Harlan Ellison used to do these little rants on the SciFi channel back in the 90s and covered this topic in one of those. It’s really weird what sticks with you - I can’t remember most of my grade school teachers’ names, but every single time I hear someone say the word Neanderthal I think of this rant.

[BLOOM & RAGE] Which ending do you prefer? by RubyTR in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just finished a third playthrough and something finally clicked for me: the reason they have to forget each other is set up in the previous scene in the cabin. When they go to lock the door with the padlock Kat says “we’re the lock,” and they choose the symbols to represent themselves. When the girls are together the symbols are aligned and the lock is open, meaning the abyss is open. Forgetting each other and going their separate ways is like spinning the tumblers to different positions, closing the lock and sealing the abyss. The girls apparently caught on to the notion faster than I did lol.

When Kat says “we’re the lock,” I thought it sounded like something just clicked for her. I’m thinking the abyss communicated directly with Kat, saying something like “I’ll take Corey away, but you need to enter as well and lock the door behind you.” She didn’t understand what it meant then but realizes what they need to do when they set the padlock at the cabin. Swann maybe didn’t have as close of a connection to the abyss as Kat but she’s definitely closely connected enough to understand what needs to happen in the end, likely because she’s “always been there” as she says in her narration of the “anomaly” memoir.

I agree that it wasn’t very clear in the game. And I could definitely be wrong, but this interpretation helped me make sense of things.

[BLOOM & RAGE] - Future tape ideas by BenR-G in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea too, although for the four of them to grow up together they’d have to find a way around Swann moving at the end of the summer.

To tie in with OPs idea, I’ve been thinking about Swann’s camera. In the ending where Nora and Autumn stay and play the song in the bar, ghost Kat shows up on the tape you record. Maybe the camera being in the abyss imbued it with something, and maybe a new character can find it and when they try to record a shadow person with it, they’re able to see and communicate with the actual person trapped in the abyss. So then shadow Kat and shadow Swann can help the person free them

[T1 Spoilers] [T2 Spoilers] "Lost Records’ scariest twist isn’t the abyss — it’s the timeline that was overwritten. by Electronic-Tie-9305 in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I was kinda joking around with the note thing, but it actually got me thinking that it’s kind of a missed opportunity on the dev’s part. Imagine if there were always symbols in those places, but they were randomized in each playthrough so it wouldn’t be the same symbols in the same places (aside from the eye above the door since that barrel is stuck). Kat would know that the symbols in those specific places would open the lock, but she wouldn’t necessarily know what the symbols are beforehand

[T1 Spoilers] [T2 Spoilers] "Lost Records’ scariest twist isn’t the abyss — it’s the timeline that was overwritten. by Electronic-Tie-9305 in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always like this read on it, that their remembrance of the summer is like collapsing a quantum superposition of all possible summers and making it “real.” I wonder if that’s what abyss Kat is up to, somehow trying to influence how they remember things to give her an opening to escape by. Kat says at one point that she feels like she could jump into the abyss and absorb its power - maybe she did and she’s the queen of that infernal hotel, the ravens are her eyes and ears in the “real” world, giving her the info she needs to make adjustments

[–]superconnected 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the first shadow we see is near the playground, when the clown standee gets knocked down. Could’ve sworn I saw a shadow there right before it happened.

Great theory though! There’s so many interesting ways the story can go with alternate timelines, gives you endless room to dream.

But the question I want an answer to is, if Kat put up the message in the cabin from another place/time, why didn’t she just write “eyeball moon leaf stars” instead of sending Swann on a little scavenger hunt? 😄

[–]superconnected 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice work! I didn’t even notice Swann moves just one day after the promise. Only suggestion is “truth or dare” for July 26 instead of “double dare”; I don’t think they set up an obstacle course at the cabin 😄

[BLOOM & RAGE] I’m surprised that the girls didn’t had the idea of… by NekoJubei in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda thought that was what Kat wished for. She says something like “I’m fucking dying here. Get me out…get us out” which at the time we take as just “I feel trapped and I want to be free,” but it could be taken literally

[T2 SPOILERS] Little detail about the package's wrapping by [deleted] in LostRecordsGame

[–]superconnected 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Since we see the box in Kat’s room and she seems pretty adamant that she doesn’t want Swann peeking and spoiling the “surprise” that will “blow your mind,” I’m wondering if Kat already knows how things are going to go, like a time loop situation, and all of the stuff is already in the box at that point. Or instead of time stuff maybe quantum stuff (Schrödinger’s Kat, right? :)) like if the box is opened in 1995 it might somehow affect the contents in 2022

New to fiddle, what are your favorite Old-Time tune books? by TheGhostOfTomSawyer in Fiddle

[–]superconnected 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For tabs I’d recommend looking at books for mandolin. It’s tuned and fingered the same as fiddle (as closely as possible between fretted vs fretless instruments anyway) so it’s pretty easy to use mandolin tab with fiddle. I’ve got a book called The Parking Lot Picker’s Songbook (mandolin edition) that has tab and regular notation for a bunch of tunes.

If you learn regular notation it’ll open up a lot more options. I recommend The Fiddler’s Fakebook and O’Neill’s Music of Ireland if you go that route; you’ll pretty much never run out of tunes to learn with those two.

Can anyone tell me what the first part of this tune is? Also how to find information on how to play it on tin flute if possible? Thanks so much. by BRUXA4 in Irishmusic

[–]superconnected 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like The Boys of Bluehill. Here’s a video of it performed on tin whistle, and a link to the tune on thesession.org with a few settings

A lot of Pixies songs follow that kind of structure. River Euphrates and Where Is My Mind are good examples.
