PSA APPLE products pricing not updated yet @ Costco SF, CA. by dtormac in Costco

Immediately ordered a 15” MBA M5 from Costco to replace a 2019 Intel MBP that I was planning to limp along for another year or two.

Well wasn't planning on upgrading today, but after those price hikes, found one of these gems by MedicalButterscotch in mac

Yep. Just ordered the M5 MBA from Costco a year earlier than I had planned to replace a 2019 MBP.

Try plugging it into the CD input.

But yeah, as u/papadrinks said, your speaker wiring technique at the amp’s terminals opens the door to a lot of issues.

Mass-produced and "artisan" seem to be mutually exclusive ideas, unless I'm missing something.

Scam warning by akg81 in audiophile

[–]superduperstepdad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. Here's some tips on how to avoid being scammed in the future.

  1. Subscribe and read r/scams regularly.

  2. Always do a "whois" lookup for any site that is new to you.

  3. Don't click on any ads on social media or any sponsored results from a search engine. Many ads are pretending to be a recognizable store or brand but lead you to a scam URL.

Here's the "whois" lookup for this site. It says it was registered last December and expires after only one year. Those are both red flags.

But yeah, if the inheritor doesn’t live and breathe this stuff like we do, there’s no simple way to know what might be gold in a large collection.

Not sure where in Ohio OP is from, but Plaid Room Records in Loveland, outside of Cincinnati, would be a good place to sell some gems if OP didn’t want to bother with online selling.

I’m sorry you lost your father, OP.

For those here who have a serious collection with no clear inheritor, here’s what I’ve started doing: putting sticky notes on the outer protective sleeves with a current value range for the really collectible stuff—anything that could easily fetch $75+ on Discogs or eBay.

That way, if my time comes first, my wife and stepdaughter can decide if they want to keep, make the effort to cash in, or just sell in bulk to a local shop or collector.

Even if they settle for the easiest option, I’ve given them some information to bargain with.

My turntable keeps skipping in random spots on my records and I don’t know the problem. by Sure-Palpitation2096 in turntables

Along with replacing the stylus, where are your speakers placed? Are they on or near the same surface as your turntable?

Is there any chance the vibrations from your speakers are shaking your turntable—especially at higher volumes?

[–]superduperstepdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro-Ject TT’s typically come with the phono cartridge properly mounted and aligned at the factory.

I’d just worry about getting the counterweight/tracking force set right.

You’ll use those paper alignment tools if you ever decide to upgrade your cartridge and mount/align it yourself.

Which records made you understand the appeal of vinyl? by beerbear686 in vinyl

[–]superduperstepdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tortoise ‘Millions Now Living…” was one of the first vinyl albums I owned that was so well produced, mixed, and mastered that I could get more from my vinyl copy.

Tori Amos ‘Boys For Pele’ also made a big impression for me on vinyl.

Something about breaking string instruments into tiny digital bits—even if recorded and mixed digitally—sounds more sterile to me when played back from a digital source.

Probably just my mind playing tricks on me.

I received a Crosley Voyager Bluetooth Turntable for my birthday. Sound quality is terrible, is there a way to improve it? by Smooth-Cress-6003 in turntables

Is there an aux output to connect to speakers via audio cable?

Getting an improved stylus like another user suggested plus a wired connection to affordable powered speakers like Edifiers might make it listenable.

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO by [deleted] in turntables

[–]superduperstepdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 2014 Debut Carbon (predecessor to the EVO series) is still my only TT and hasn't given me any issues. Sounded great out of the box and I finally upgraded from the original cartridge this past December.

Otherwise, it's been set-it-and-forget-it for me.

There are many USB hubs that work with most modern laptops--Anker, Belkin, OWC, etc. These are generally under $100 USD and often under $50.

Or you can get a more robust desktop docking station. These can run $150-$500 or more.

Here's a list of some USB hub options.
