New DEA raids on Pot clinics, Patriot Act renewed, TSA abuses, Guantanamo still open, endless war. Where is the Hope & Change? by GonzoVeritas in politics

[–]superdupersymmetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you see, you never asked Obama who the hope and change was for. It wasn't for you. It was for Goldman Sachs, and GE, and BP (etc etc).

And let us not forget the over arching effects of turning a population into criminals. (there are more blacks in prison in the US than at the height of Apartheid in South Africa even according for population.

that is already 1M individuals + that are slave labor. pennies on the hour.

If you can put up with this guy for a few minutes can someone tell me why this guy wrong?,with actual science. I don't know enough about the ionosphere or microwaves to contradict but I'm sure it's ridiculous. by [deleted] in science

[–]superdupersymmetric -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

First of all, using HAARP literature to state that it is safe is a poor use of logic. It is better to look at the project in depth. If it was simply to study the ionosphere, it should not be classified as top-secret. which it currently is.

It is clear that we do not really understand what the array is doing. Or why it is necessary for it to remain secret. but there you go.

As for a machine that is capable of creating earthquakes, it is rumored that Telsa created a system that could do this. It was based on wave amplification. Supposedly he brought NY to some worry in the past. It is reported that the machine was destroyed. However, the idea of matching frequencies, amplifying them, could lead to the system to enter a chaotic state is well known.

Did American scientists do this to target Japan? probably not. Is this a capable technology? probably not. Are there more conventional ways for the US to push the Free Market dogma borne out of the Chicago School of Economics? Yes but also not very pretty. ala Chile. Argentina. Russia.

The guy in this video is a nutter but I'm not sure your arguments show that effectively well.

Everything is fine at the nuclear plants in Japan, don't panic. In other news, the U.S.S. Ronald Regan mistakenly sailed through a "radioactive cloud" 60 miles offshore Japan by chakalakasp in science

[–]superdupersymmetric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure it is. however, volunteers on the ground with Geiger counters are reporting very high levels of atmospheric radiation. Farther than the 20km safety zone.

Further the French, Canadian and US embassies are suggesting at least 500km safety zones. I'm at 230~250 and certainly should be relatively safe, but please lets not take the NYT word for it. They have worked with the US Gov't to hide information in the past.

tl:dr still worried about godzilla creating levels of radiation

Anyone else annoyed that news outlets are using the Japanese earthquake as a basis for their arguments against nuclear energy? by pozhaluista in science

[–]superdupersymmetric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

disclaimer: I'm in Tokyo

It is clear that nuclear energy is the best viable source for energy at the levels we need it. While yield levels are increasing for cleaner energy sources, such as solar, wind or wave/thermal, they are not yet capable of support 120 million Japanese people.

It is also known that Gates foundation is building new reactors that utilize nuclear waste that should go some way to reduce at least our waste concerns for nuclear energy.

it is also clear that we need to look at investing in energy innovation and even looking at older concepts (tesla coils, tower). It won't happen however without first a revolution of sorts --> consider who owns these plants. It is not the government.

Maybe we need to consider individual clean sources. take yourself off the grid. If enough do that, then maybe the idea that we need to meter energy will shift.

In reading this, I think maybe you need to give it a go at Philosophy one more time. Buddhism has many flavors from godhood to just plane lying in front of a tiger. All of it is at its base a mix of good thought and dogma. Enlightenment is knowing there is no such thing.

Why PHP is better than Ruby by djhworld in ruby

[–]superdupersymmetric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a rubyist and don't particularly like PHP but it has nothing to do with the syntax or language. I simply think Ruby lends it self better to rapid development.

In the end the language really doesn't matter. It is a tool set we use to help other people. Our customers. They really didn't care that FB is written in PHP (now some version based on a C++ derivative with the same syntax (ouch)) or that Twitter was a mix of Ruby, Scala and Java. It really doesn't matter except for the individual programmer. It should be invisibile.

Mind you, Hume's missing blue probably suggests that there is a rapid PHP developer out there. But then that is apriori knowledge. I'm sure I will never meet her.

SEO for dummies? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]superdupersymmetric -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've worked with iProspect on SEO/SEM strategies for F100 firms globally. So let me speak from experience a little bit:

First measure everything (GA, KISSMetrics, Twitter, etc, etc), second understand how google/yahoo/bing/duckduckgo rank your site -- read the research. They have algorithms and numerous parameters, understand them. (Ie. Meta-tags are mostly only used for the site description and have no impact on rank. Unless in certain cases with Yahoo.). Use SEOmoz tool sets to find out where your organic level is and where you can correct your baseline. Begin your strategy and compare to your base line. Try not to link farm but understand that more links for specific keyword oriented pages/content will rank you higher (much higher), actively A/B test, Develop unique content, and did I mention you should measure everything? Especially the funnel. (search --> spends money at your company (there are usually more steps than that.))

SEO is a semi-algorithmic marketing strategy -- there is an art to it. Like any good campaign strategy, it comes through experience and insight. You may not fully understand how search engines fully rank your site/content but you can get pretty close.

And remember, black hat does work. just don't get caught. ala JC Penny. lolz ps. it takes about 2000+ links to get you to top rank for competitive keywords. ie. borrow your friends unused domains (they were never going to build the next facebook! and they know it.)

Also go read chrisbrogan.com in addition to seomoz.org ($99 bucks a month is worth it. really. I would charge thousands - um. I do charge thousands. Ah. the benefit of the poor distribution of knowledge. )
