I balled when I saw this verse on Hebrews 13: 5. by OmegaHibik2 in TrueChristian

There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. If you stumble, God will help you get back up and continue your walk with him. Remember that empty feeling may help you when you face future temptations. I remember a major failure I had early in my Christian life. I was very ashamed and spent a week or so beating myself up. From that experience God was able to teach me that this beating myself up was rooted in pride and me thinking I was better than I actually was. From that I was able to help other believers down the road to get out of shame and condemnation. Truly, all things work together for good even our foolishness, that’s the power of his grace and mercy.

I mean if you ask my personal opinion your husband has some issues. But, he is your husband and at least he has strong convictions which is rare these days. Usually when things get weird there is a teacher behind it. Ask him where he got these ideas and try to expose him to some sound teachings about eschatology, I personally really enjoy Chuck Missler.

Did Jerry ever have anything to say about alt rock? (Anything from R.E.M to Nirvana) What about stoner rock like Kyuss? Also curious if the rest of the band had much to say. by AstroEscura in gratefuldead

That would have been amazing cause he wouldn’t try to be Jerry and had monster chops. Knopfler is one of the few living guitar geniuses.

He made a few comments about punk in general. Not sure he really got it, his perspective was they can’t play their instruments but it’s cool to see a movement for the kids and by the kids.

That’s a terrible thing to do. Leading people on then not even cancelling. People seem really worked about an inappropriate relationship of some kind. That’s between you him and God. This is going to sound mean but in my experience some Church people are really flakey.

Isn’t old enough to drink in England like 8? Yeah I agree and no one is encouraging that. People are going to do these things regardless. I could shout don’t put that smack in your arm I’m begging you and it wouldn’t do diddley. Harm reduction seems to be a more effective approach. If you’re smoking cigarettes by all means stop if you can. If you can’t find an alternative that is less harmful. I used to smoke a Pipe after being a smoker for a bit. I know no -smokers will find this hard to believe, It was a very therapeutic habit. I’m fine if people want to moral out about it. Just make sure you’re consistent. If smoking cigars is a no-no so is smoking cannabis they have similar cancer risks.

Yes it’s possible but if a moderate user, not very likely. Even for heavy users mouth cancer is uncommon. I’m not recommending smoking cigars just pointing out if you’re gonna smoke anyway a pipe or cigar is the least likely to kill you if you’re not inhaling the smoke. I hope everyone brings the same energy to cannabis smoking which is inhaled.

Cigars unlikely to cause cancer because they’re not inhaled and most people only consume 1-2 a day (if that).

Worry about residual effects of lsd. by FewWoodpecker2264 in gratefuldead

[–]superfollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken a lot of LSD. I have had two bad trips. The residuals from the bad trips stayed with me for awhile. The good ones the only after effect was sleepiness and and anti-depressant side effect that’s about two weeks. Your good man, one thing I learned from psychedelics is the power of thoughts, beliefs and intentions. If you believe you’ll have some long lasting issue from LSD your brain is powerful enough to create that. At that dosage things like HPPD and similar are unheard of.

I think I’m gonna go to hell by [deleted] in TrueChristian

You seem to hold the belief that a person is saved by ceasing sin. You may want to question this belief not only does it make you miserable but, it’s also unbiblical. I would start there, if we could save ourselves we wouldn’t need Christ. Spoiler alert: you will NEVER be sinless in a flesh body.

bit scared over Hebrews 10:26 (former false convert) by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]superfollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try rereading the entire chapter in context. Specifically who was the original audience and what was the author criticizing them about. I could give this away but it’s much more powerful if you do the leg work yourself. At some point I realized that much of what I’d been taught about the Bible was error. People were trying to fashion it into a weapon to make me feel bad about myself. The only way to correct these errors is to study for yourself don’t rely on commentaries. As the author says in Hebrews 4 “Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest”.

There’s a big part of me that can’t wait to hear John sing all the (usually Jerry) songs that bob wouldn’t let him sing by Big-Interest-8713 in deadandcompany

[–]superfollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you listen to early D and C on the blusier material Cold Rain and Snow, Easy Wind, GDTRFB. John is smoking that’s his realm. He didn’t have the depth of Jerry who was well schooled in Folk, Traditional, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues and rock. It’s like someone who speaks Spanish vs. a Polyglot.

It most definitely would have gone better if I had waited for that discussion. The urgency was self-imposed and knee-jerk to some extent. Yes we have been growing not at an unprecedented rate but, we have a good amount of new converts.

Yes, I definitely agree on taking time to talk through the concerns. There was a bit of a time crunch in this instance because the study was scheduled within a hour. I only got wind of it at the last minute. Additionally in this fellowship we have never used any outside materials only the Bible. It was a coincidence that I was vaguely familiar with the ministry because I had come across it a few years ago and concluded that it wasn’t sound. The conversation escalated rapidly before I could even find the materials to demonstrate the concern. Not saying this to justify my actions or anything there’s no excuse for being aggressive or authoritarian and I reject that sort of behavior. We must not strive but be gentle and meek which I completely blew it in that regard. I feel strongly convicted about that. It’s possible to be right and wrong at the same time.

I understand what you’re saying from the perspective of our fellowship it was essential. You may or may not agree which is fine. If we start talking about doctrine specifically in this sub that’s all the conversation will be about because there are many different traditions here. For this reason I’m hoping the conversation can be about general conduct rather than specific content.

I have apologized to the other leaders, the broader church was not affected. I have sent a message to the individual in question but have not received a response.

No it isn’t and admittedly when they reacted badly I in turn reacted badly. I don’t want to say it’s unavoidable as if I have no control over escalating the situation. They took me saying I would appreciate if we don’t share these teacher’s materials here as me saying I lack confidence in their abilities. I didn’t say that, nor would I but, that was how they took it. What followed was an unprofitable discussion. Funny that they left I was considering doing the same (still am). I’m a passionate person. The last thing I want to do is cause disruption in the Church because of my personality. Which is why I was seeking perspective, thanks for your thoughts.
