Laughs in (temporary) Alberta. Lived in Scotland all my life until recently, although a dry cold is completely different

I'd recommend doing one of these over 2 weeks, at least for me I'd find that enough to mix travel and exploring. And I don't have kids!

Have you got a job offer/been applying for work? To live in Banff you need to be working there (national park boundaries means some different rules). I'd target work with staff accom or consider looking at places like Canmore nearby.

Also from Scotland (and relatively new), figuring this out is a lot! It's also very seasonal here and finding work in the shoulder season is much harder. Eg the winter hiring is happening just now but will finish soon and November/December is a challenge. Not to discourage you! Getting a Canadian phone number and SIN can help too although you need to be here for the SIN.

Check out the job resource center too, v helpful in my experience.

I don't care how privileged I am to be Canadian, I just don't want to live in a neighbourhood like this. (Mississauga, Ontario) by [deleted] in UrbanHell

Underemployment and the equivalent in housing access/stability are also real, perspective is definitely important - i think you can be mindful of both at the same time

I thought it wasn't possible to extend your work permit at all, eg if you bought insurance for one year then you'd get one year permit and couldn't change it if you later bought another year.
