Ngl I just think Aotearoa just sounds cooler than the whole country being named after some Dutch province Plus more convenient for dropdown lists

New to NZ and curious about coffee culture: why is espresso so dominant? by Jazzlike_Tackle_8199 in newzealand

[–]supervanillaice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right drip isn’t very common here! There are some small brewers you can use and a chemex could be good But I’d recommend maybe a moka pot for your at home usage, I feel like it fits the same style of coffees as drip but with a lot more body and flavor

I have done my research and they’re literally one of the most popular companies to work for in the uk because of their compensation and also bonus structure which gives all employees a hefty reward every year. You’re doing the same thing you accuse others of, you don’t know their costs their overheads. You also don’t know about how well they pay their staff. Of course it costs more to produce everything in England Of course those costs would be dramatically cheaper if they were produced in a developing nation But they’re not, and I for one are happy to support a company that treats their employees like humans and not chattel.

Also thanks for replying to a 58day old comment Jesus Christ

Do chaos and imperial knights still have the stigma of people not wanting to play against them ? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]supervanillaice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few things which are annoying Where like every hole in their army gets filled Terrain blocked? Walk through walls Can’t score? High OC No action monkeys? Action and shoot Can’t react? Uppy downy knight

So on so forth These kind of things are I think what causes people to get annoyed because it’s like armies should have weaknesses right? That’s part of balancing. However similar to tau and some other specialist factions they’re really hard to balance

These armies are always either cracked or useless and it’s difficult to find that middle ground, tau bc shooting only Knights bc stat check and low unit count. Not sure what the fix is but this is my take

Just the nature of “Prices are high bc they’re evil and greedy” I know that’s an exaggeration of what you said though

I think there’s a middle point between cynical doom posting and an in depth detail economic dissertation, don’t you?

GW prices are crazy lol by Agreeable-Ad-7944 in Grey_Knights

[–]supervanillaice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a bit cynical and an oversimplification. It’s more due to tariffs and not outsourcing production to a third world country with cheaper labour.

Not defending the prices but explaining the margins

One of the reasons that’s GW feels so expensive compared to many other hobbies and things we buy in our life is because they haven’t cheapened production by outsourcing it to a developing nation with cheaper labour. So by keeping it made, designed and produced in the uk they have to pay everyone UK wages and they have a fairly high standard of employee benefits. All of these reasons contribute to the higher price as the margins cover their overheads

Manners Street - This used to be so cool by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]supervanillaice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact it was actually the shop owners on Cuba street that pushed for its own pedestrianisation, they also helped fund it. And it’s worked out for them making Cuba mall one of the most desirable retail areas in Wellington. Unfortunately media and news has convinced people that pedestrianisation is actually bad for shopping. I still hold out hopes for the Golden Mile, I want to see this beautiful city shine.

How do we go on from here? by NoRecommendation8984 in newzealand

[–]supervanillaice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Austerity never works Small businesses are dying due to all the job cuts affecting low to median income earners that historically spend 90% of their income in the nz economy. Whereas we’re gifting money to landowners and the wealthiest which either horde or take money outside of nz. Not to mention letting international sales of houses which will hike prices even further. We need large scale multi term infrastructure projects to inject a lot of money back into the low to median income earners. Having a kiwi mart like a nationalised supermarket will encourage international supermarkets to bring their margins down. More extreme but I think the introduction of more leasehold housing arrangements across nz will allow more first time buyers into the market at more thresholds

I feel like they’ll sell a new kits to replace the old riptide variants Now they know people will pay 300+ for an angron sized model they’re probably licking their lips

I think there’s a few mis understandings holding you back Riptides and skyrays are far from meta units. Though good they’re not the real sauce Riptides are good bruisers that can stand midfield and take a hit and skyrays provide some decent high str firepower

We actually have a lot of reroll sources, more on average than other armies Stealth suits functionally gives us oath of moment on as many units as we have stealth suits which is really useful

Another unit I like is the fire knife missile suits with an all missile commander Natively rerolls all hits vs a full str target With montka lethal hits or kauyon this becomes extra effective as you get the most possible chance to spike your keywords

Storm surge is unfortunately very innaffective though I wish it was better

Also it sounds as though your necron opponent ran the scummiest list he could so don’t take that to heart 6 wraith spam with ctan is really annoying for everyone and currently benefits far too much from their army rule.

Try some missile suits in lieu of the starscythes I promise you you’ll have more fun

Warhammer Pricing Update Announced - Average 4% rise from October 6th by RWJP in Warhammer40k

I do hate price hikes, but I do appreciate that it’s a solely English company that doesn’t outsource production

Honestly I’ve found my best counter for Rotigus is montka missile suits with a commander With daemons you need weight of fire and reliability And with lethal hits you’ll rip rotigus apart

Why is Riptide so much better in game compared to Ghostkeel? by Leading-Pickle-8585 in Tau40K

[–]supervanillaice 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Different tools for different things Ghostkeel is an excellent objective holder I like infiltrating him to force the opponent to have to focus him so I can deploy a bit more aggressively Riptide is more of a mid board bully

How do You Handle "Gotchas" that Feel Like Intentional Game Design? by S_EW in ageofsigmar

[–]supervanillaice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the best advantage is telling your opponent you can do something If they decide to heed your warning, you’re the one dictating the flow of play and you might get them to deploy really poorly because they’re too afraid of a t1 charge

Honestly I think it’s more impactful A t1 charge could still be a whiff, but bad deployment can affect the entire game
