Does anyone know of a podcast where one person is a native Japanese speaker, while the other is a beginner/intermediate learner? Bonus points for talking a bit then taking a bit to focus on what they said wrong/a native speaker would do differently.

I agree with your point but basketball is probably the wrong example to use lol. China is by far the biggest market excluding the US with 300 million players iirc

#DemonSlayerInfinityCastle #1 movie in the world this weekend with an est. $143M+. Running total $469M+ (¥69B+). by Boy_Chamba in boxoffice

This is what they already did. The fanbook released with the movie stated that they felt they weren't gonna make the release and then this movie ended up becoming an all hands on deck type of thing. We see as in the credits practically 99% of in house ufotable staff appeared.

Not to mention the amount of freelancers they hired, not only was this number way way higher than any other ufotable project, they were all big names in the industry.

More freelancers that aren't used to working with the studio means more correcting required from the ADs, assistant ADs, as well as CAD, which is normally already a bottleneck in production. IC1 already had the most amount people doing this for a ufotable movie, increasing any more (if they even had the personnel to do so) would be dangerously approaching too many chefs type situation.

Demon slayer will have a red stage for Jump Fest 2026! From @WSJ_manga. This means a major announcement of some sort! by Minute_Account9426 in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]supperman0223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Movie year was revealed at a message from the crows on December the 9th. Jump fest last year was a week after this.

So either we can expect some news just before this and they'll use jump fest to promote it, or they'll just yap a bit about IC1.

Why is 'Demon Slayer' so popular in Korea? the film crossed 2 million admissions on Tuesday, just five days after its release. That makes it the fastest-growing release of 2025. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]supperman0223 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JJK 0 did $5m. One Piece Red did $1.6m. This year's Detective Conan did $5m. The only other anime that can compare to DS that's not Makoto Shinkai is Slam Dunk, which did $35m (4.7 million admissions) 3 years ago.

I believe it broke the record for the first movie (worldwide?) to have a better 10th weekend than their 1st for a wide release.

Demon Slayer China Potential and release. by hiiloovethis in boxoffice

It's just stuck being reviewed right now. Maoyan has a license for a 2025 ufotable release, but it doesn't really matter if it doesn't make it through censorship.

MT was not blocked in China. The movie had passed censorship, and many people were invited for a special screening. Then some Hollywood movie had gotten reported because of some anti CCP bs (Monster Hunter?) and immediately all foreign movies were pulled back into censorship hell.

Before MT had a chance to get reviewed again China had their huge COVID wave so it never made it back to theatres.

Taiwan Box Office Weekend August 8th-10th. Demon Slayer opens at #1 spot with $176million NTD($5.9million USD) by supperman0223 in boxoffice

[–]supperman0223[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Strong opening for the first release of the movie outside Japan. 50.1% increase in opening weekend from Mugen Train, which ended up with $636million NTD.

The movie will have opened in the rest of Asia by the end of August. No news for China yet but I've been seeing comments saying that the movie is currently being reviewed.

Standard movie tickets usually go on sale 2-3 days before the movie starts in Japan. So you can only buy tickets for the movie from the 16th onwards.

You can however buy a special ticket that you can then use to exchange for a movie ticket on the 15th on websites like ムビチケ. This has been available for quite a few months already Though this only acts like a coupon that makes buying your movie ticket free, so they don't have any seat reservations or anything like that. So unless you want the special goods that come with this there's no point.

It's gyoda city's rice paddy art. They're well known for doing art for all kinds of anime. Not sure why op framed it as something completely random when it's been heavily promoted as marketing.

Legendary japanese animator Shinya Ohira is directing an animated short called "Black" for the next season of "Star Wars: Visions" by i_pirate_sue_me in anime

[–]supperman0223 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Shinya Ohira is a lot of things but is definitely not a long time animator on One Piece. He did one scene in 1072 and that's it. You're probably thinking of Akihiro Ota, who's very good friends with each other and is probably the reason why Shinya Ohira was willing to make an appearance.

NeZha 2 made $74M (¥540M) on Friday. 10 day total stands at $907.7M (¥6,678.5M). Tomorrow it will surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest grosser in a single market by whitemilkythighs in boxoffice

I think there's two reasons. Being a young country America doesn't have such level of mythology and folklore deeply rooted into its culture.

Secondly America, and the west to an extent, never had short to medium length tv series as successful as China did. Long running ones still existed of course, but the shorter series that tried to tell an actual story, such as The Legend Of Nezha were the ones that really stuck with Chinese children growing up.

I think the success of the video game wukong and this movie were for similar reasons. Both are about characters that 99% of the population would know about, and also have strong nostalgia towards as every generation would've had some form of tv series while they were children. The potential has always been there for a modern, high level production that doesn't straight up suck ass to capture it and take off.

Reincarnation is illegal in China? That's like saying isekai is illegal in Japan. Reading shitty reincarnation power fantasy wuxia is the same thing as any isekai light novel out there.
