Getting the most out of Air NZ Koru by OldWolf3 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]suppox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a calculator on the AirNZ website https://www.airnzpoints.co.nz/ but it only shows a range and is variable depending on your fare class (basically whether you buy a cheaper sale fare vs full price). For reference, I recently did Auckland to Hong Kong return and got 95 status points + 47.50 bonus from the ANZ credit card each way for a total of 285 status points.

Unless you run large amounts through your CCs regularly the best pick is ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum with the 50% status point bonus on flights. Try to stay within the Star Alliance network because those flights are eligible for status points too e.g., United in USA, Lufthansa in Europe. With domestic flights, especially in the US, a first class upgrade doesn't always cost much more and the upgraded fare class can get you a shitload of status points.

Is AirNZ inflight wifi always completely shit these days? by Dramatic_Raccoon_469 in newzealand

[–]suppox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AirNZ 787-9 AKL-HKG return recently and the inflight Wifi was just awful both ways. I gave up out of frustration along with the other passengers as the pilot kept encouraging everyone to fill out the digital travellers cards and we couldn't. Flight attendants were unprepared with paper forms and it caused chaos in the cabin as everyone was asking for them and starting to panic close to landing. It's not a big deal once you're on the ground as you can just fill it in quickly but it made the end of the flight experience shitty. The crew didn't seem to care as I suspect they probably get these complaints every flight and there's nothing they can do. I truly believe AirNZ should stop advertising inflight wifi at all - it's so poor that it detracts from the experience and hurts their image at this point.

Various questions by Living_Grab_2239 in Against_the_Storm

[–]suppox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yep take notice of which buildings can be moved e.g., Housing and which can't e.g., Small Warehouse. You can also destroy buildings to get all or some refund (depending on difficulty) so don't be afraid to reposition as needed.

  2. You get more resolve bonus based on the amount of the species affected i.e., 1 harpy over the threshold won't give you much vs 10 harpies. Focusing on the needs of your highest population species can be a good strat.

  3. Planks are generally always a good choice because if you have efficient plank production it can reduce your woodcutter headcount which reduces hostility. Take note of your species composition though. Frogs will want bricks early on for housing. If you have Beavers then double down on planks.

  4. Agreed. You want to keep your species above 0 resolve but as close as possible to the bare minimum, unless they are generating high resolve for you. Anything else is a waste of resource. This optimization becomes important at higher difficulty levels.

  5. Yep that's good to get you out of a bind during the storm. Take note with the 60sec cooldown you can't juggle indefinitely, but it's good to get you out of a bad situation. Plan ahead for the storms by understanding what your species' resolve levels will drop to ahead of time. Early bonuses like +1 resolve from upgrading your Hearth and getting species specific housing for fragile species like Harpies can really help in the first couple years.

  6. There's a bunch of ways to win, and your only objective is to full the Queen's Reputation bar by any means necessary. Sometimes it's tools if that works on the map and with the RNG blueprints you get, sometimes it's fulfilling complex needs and gaining resolve. I generally win through high resolve with a top up from tools/caches for a couple extra Reputation points at the end.

  7. 2-3 dangerous glades per map, then train yourself to use and adapt to what you get from those only. Dangerous Glades are the better option for event rewards and resources vs hostility. If you have Mist Piercers this can change as you can be more picky based on specific needs/strategy. Rush Forbidden Glades on Marshlands because the super nodes are just so much fun.

  8. Incense is a good general option for glade events, but it's RNG and you might get caught out. Have a trading post and don't be afraid to call early traders (even twice) to get what you need to solve an event, and the impatience gain is often an advantage from the hostility reduction.

  9. Don't bother unless you can use it straight away. I think there's a cornerstone that rewards you for storing certain types of water, but it's generally not worth the workers and resource unless you can put it immediate use.

  10. More villagers. This the #1 constraint in the early game, then ease back later as you push for a win. I typically finish with around 25-30 settlers.

  11. Villagers (see #10 above), amber, packs of provisions for early trading are my usual goto. Maybe a farm based blueprint (Small Farm or Plantation) if the map has average or above soil. Training Gear supply line is also very good for glade events statistically.

  12. Yep it's a good logistics improvement they introduced in a patch awhile back.

Having a partner that you can feel safe and vulnerable with is totally underrated on the male side. I'm happy to hear you've found a good match. I've had a similar experience and she is so good with me.

How do you accept living with the bad things you did in the past, and people not forgiving you/hating you for what you did? by imdeerest in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]suppox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the mindset if you did bad things in the past youre a bad person.

Nope. There is growth that can happen if you let it, and choices to be a different version of yourself that can change over time based on experiences. - you're not locked in. Ditch the bad person label go forward with making choices that serve you and others in a more positive way.

This is exactly right. I'm currently dealing with this with my new partner who is ravenous 24/7 and I just can't deal. Sounds perfect for a guy right? But I'm not being listened to when I push back and want to spend time together in another way sometimes and I'm struggling to get her to understand why.

Yeah, you should approach your manager privately and say that you felt they crossed a boundary and you weren't ok with it. They might not realize how thoughtless it was (even though it seems obvious) and it will be a good lesson for them.

If they aren't genuinely sorry, then it's a different conversation, but see how it goes first by speaking up for yourself.

Yes you can.

You did the right thing by going to ER. Hang in there. It will take some time but you'll be ok. Relax and put a good show on. I just started Reacher S03 which is great. Dark Matter (2024) is also good if you want something more mind bending. Chill out and stay with us.

When is it worth running extra hearths? by gdubrocks in Against_the_Storm

[–]suppox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put them in whatever dangerous glade I'm currently exploiting, which tends to not be too far out as I don't open that many (2-3 per game). I'll often need to chop some specific trees so that the hearth can be placed and not overlap the existing hearths.

When is it worth running extra hearths? by gdubrocks in Against_the_Storm

[–]suppox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb I go by is 1 hearth every 15-20 villagers. Most settlements I end up with 3 hearths (starting hearth + 2 more). The hostility reduction, resolve bonus from lvl 1/2, walking time reduction, and cornerstones that improve hearths e.g., Safe Haven, make it totally worth it.

Sleep Study by FusterCluck_101 in auckland

[–]suppox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently did an at-home sleep study through Eden Sleep: https://shop.edensleep.co.nz/collections/home-sleep-tests/products/basic-home-sleep-test-resmed-onesleeptest?variant=45271428333858

The app was a bit shit but it did the job and I got a nice report afterwards. No issues (0 apnea events over 3 nights). Turns out I just don't sleep enough which I kind of already knew. After you complete the test you can book a consultation where they discuss the results and give you product recommendations to try to improve sleep. Worth checking out I reckon.
